Caylee's Law is a proposal getting a lot of attention since the "not guilty" ruling in the Casey Anthony trial. Furthermore, more details of what lies within Caylee's Law are revealed and they are quite agreeable. In fact, even the grandfather of Caylee Anthony, George Anthony, supports this proposal, proving that perhaps he truly had nothing to do with the disappearance and murder of his granddaughter and the namesake of this potential new law.

California could adopt Caylee's Law punishing parents who fail to report a missing childThe latest news on this potential law comes from California. It seems that lawmakers in the westernmost state are seriously considering it. A Yucca Valley assemblyman wants to push a more local version of the law in the state to not only make it illegal to fail to report your child missing but to make it a punishable offense to not report a child's death as well.

In fact, if a parent or guardian fails to report a dead child within two hours of the death they could potentially face felony charges. This comes in light of Casey Anthony's web of stories before and during the trial. Not only did she fail to report her child missing for over 30 days, during the trial she had her defense switch gears to say that Caylee Anthony was never missing, that she was in fact dead the entire time because of an accident.

No matter what way you slice that pie, someone failed that poor little girl and lawmakers in several states aside from California want to prevent this kind of misfortune and misjustice to occur again.
What do you think? Is it serving ANY justice? It will to other children, but not for poor Caylee :(

i don't think that's the case, Christy. I think law enforcement won't do anything until your child has been missing for at least 24 hours. i disagree with that! the rule assumes that most runaway kids come back in the next day or so, but not all missing kids are runways. in the case of a kidnapping, as soon as the child has been taken, every second is precious time needed to find that child. i don't believe caylee was kidnapped by a stranger, it was just an example. i do think she was killed by her mom. i very much believe the chloroform was used to knock her out and the tape was used to prevent her from breathing. however, if this is the case, all of that took time. precious time. had someone known she was missing right away, maybe things would have turned out differently. probably not, but the point is, speed is very important when you think a crime has happened or is about to happen.

What is so sad is that I must be gullible and before this trial, I assumed that you should report your minor child missing within 24 hours. Guess that's not the case yet.

yeah but you have to think if they do an autopsy on the child it would be ruled as SIDS and the parents wouldn't be charged.. this is a great idea actually...

I think the law is no more than a knee jerk reaction to a tragic death that is going to go unpunished and may actually do more harm than good.

What about the parent whose child dies of SIDS in the crib at midnight and it isn't discovered til 6 am. This law makes them a criminal.

It will have to be proven that the parent knew the child was dead or missing. Iffy at best. I think a number of innocent parents will be put under suspicion at the very least and arrest at the worst under this law.

The intent is to punish the guilty parents but the real impact will be to cast suspicion.

I still can't believe they found her not guilty. I'm not over that yet.
I keep thinking something is going to happen and they're going to find her guilty.

I think they should pass it definitly. If parents fail to report their child missing or dead than they had something or know something. They should be punished by all means. It makes my blood boil that Casey got away with this! She should never walk free.

Yep, she's talking about plastic surgery because of all of the death threats.

I signed that petition already lol... I think this should have been done years and years ago!! In my honest opinion i think casey should have been brutally murdered also.. if not that then thrown in to regular jail so the other prisoners could have their way with her.. she would have begged for death long before it came and would probably have been dead within the month.. its the one thing i respect about inmates if you torture a child or elderly person then they will hurt you!!
