I decided to paint my nails for the first time in a year and they are already friggin chipping. Do you find it as futile as I do?

I always have mine painted. Usually a light color for my hands and always a pedi in whatever color I feel like.

I bought this anti-chip base coat stuff from Avon. It really worked. It lasts for about a week before I get any chips. I don't remember what it's called...but it works for me.

I use to get gel nails put on on a regular basis. That was before i started cooking in a restaurant about 4 years ago. Then i had gabby and now i work so much its pointless to get them done. I didn't realize how bad they are for your nails until recently. Right now my nails are long and really strong with white tips courtesy of baby number 2. It looks like i have a french manicure. Gotta love pregnancy for great nails skin and hair :P

Yes!!!! Don't even remember the last time I painted them. I usually at least paint my toes in the summer (they don't chip as quickly) but I haven't even done that this year. lol

I was going to say the same as Emma. Acrylic or Gel nails is the only way to keep them looking nice. I had acrylic's done for my wedding, after the wedding day i filed them shorter. They still looked beautiful but when they came off it was a bitch, left my nails horrible until it all grew out.

I don't bother. Is use my hands for cooking, cleaning, gardening, crafting, etc. It is absolutely futile. I do like nice a nice pedi though!

I'm just always washing my hands or have my hands in water. I painted my nails yesterday afternoon and they're chipped already. I still like them though.

Before my youngest son was born I would go every 2weeks

Now I go when special occasions come up..or what I consider special

Um…the last time I went was almost two weeks ago, and I will go back again next week or this coming weekend and get a fill and maybe some yellow/orange/ and pink…IDK but I want something that says “Hawaii” LOL

But yeah getting a good top coat will ensure that the chipping wont ensue for a while to come, unless your just rough.

I love I'm Not Really A Waitress by OPI! it's this beautiful red so every time i go to bundaberg i get a manicure and make jackie paint my nails that colour. I wore it on my toes on my wedding day :)

I paint my own for the most part. Occasionally I'll go have a mani/pedi with a girlfriend. I cannot go bare, my nails are too weak.

If they chip, try the No Chips Ahead top coat by Essie. You can get it for about $8 at walmart or target. I use it and my nail color lasts about 4-6 days before it starts to chip. So far, I've only used it on top of Essie polishes, which I love because it's really shiny, but there are not many colors available. I have a bronze color that I'm going to try next week by opi, so we'll see how it works if I mix brands.

Same I got them done for our wedding and I couldn't flush the toilet without bending one back and she grinded my nail back too far and it stung. I've never gotten them done again.

The only way to keep them looking nice is to get those acrylics put on.

YES. I got a manicure in Rocky before Renae was born and left Logan at home with my MIL and by the time I got home (3 hours drive) it was chipped.
