how do i get my kids to drop junk food?

junk food is everywhere and in many exciting forms ,kids just don`t want to resist it.

I think the best way to stop children from eating junk food is to simple not have it so readilly available. What do you eat? if you eat it, they want to eat it! What to you have in the house? if it's junk, then they'll eat junk, but if it's healthy then thats what they will eat. Try making healthy snacks for them so they can learn that healthy food can taste great too. Fruit kababs on skewers with yogurt as dipping sauce, or cheese and crackers with homus dip, or even food like popcorn (poped with an air popper) and icecream or frozen yogurt are almost guilt free. Try making fruit smoothies, or banana muffins these are all great snack idea's for between main meels. I work at a day car centre and no how important it is to feed children regually so if u think as their day as, breakfast (cereal, fruit, yogurt, toast) morning tea (fuit yogurt or cheese) Lunch (sandwhiches, ham, salad) Afternoon tea (crackers and cheese, muffin, fruit), dinner (meat and vegies) then your set.

You can BUY it but - just buy healthy junk food. If there is anything my children want - for example my son loves cheetos. I tell him I'll get him some that aren't full of all of the bad junk. They look and taste just the same but I buy them at Whole Foods. I work with a whole food supplement company so I am always learning and in turn educating my children. And believe it or not it rubs off. They eventually make healthy choices when they know you can still get food that tastes good but doesn't cause you to feel yucky and get sick.

I'm sorry, I just have to laugh at the "don't buy it" comments. Like Erin said, it really depends on how old your kids are. My kids are 9,10 and 12. It doesn't matter if I buy it or not, they find a way to have it. My kids have always eaten pretty well and I don't buy a lot of junk food but they go to their friends houses and have it. Or even at different functions, the snacks provided are always the worst of the worst. Apparently healthy is not "cool"

Anyway, I don't buy junk food and I encourage my kids to make wise choices but where there is a will there is a way.

My best recomendation is DONT BUY IT.Buy them a treat once a week.You choose for them.

It also depends on how old they are. I think it is better to condition them to like healthy food from the time they are eating solids. If they are over 4 you are going to have a tougher time. The best thing you can do if they are little or even a bit older is just remove all of it from your home and go cold turkey. Give them lots of healthy options and just don't give in. If you let eating healthy become the norm they will stop expecting junk food and then you can reintroduce some things that are treats but not terrible so they will have some little special things so they won't go and rebel when they are outside the home. You have to be careful becuase if you make a big deal of forbidding it they will just want it more. How old are your kids? Maybe if people knew the ages of your kids they could give you some suggestions that would be age appropriate because what will work for a 2 year old won't work for a 12 year old.

I just don't buy it. My daughter hasn't developed a taste for some things. I let her try a cheezy today because it was in a loot bag at a party and she spit it out. She loves fruit because that is what she eats a lot of. I don't mind her eating a bit of crap once in a while because she never eats it at home. I buy organic candies or chocolate for a treat at home so I don't get too bent out of shape if a friend offeres her the odd thing that I would never give her.

Also, if she gets stuff in loot bags and such that I really don't want her to have I just take it and throw it out and tell her that it is not for her and she accepts it. I've never really made a big deal about treats and such anyway, she gets the odd one but doesn't expect it like it is part of her diet.

yeah dont buy it. or make healthy things seem like a treat. for example my boy thinks frozen yoghurt is ice cream. its still a treat but alot better for him. and he would much rather have some cheese and biscusts over a packet of chips anyday. i tell him he has to eat healthy and good food to be nice and strong like his daddy!
