I just started dating a trucker and a very frustrated with the lack of accuracy of timing and scheduling when he is OTR. Is it normal for schedules to get extremely off as much as a day or two? For example, a load that was expected to take nine hours ended up taking eighteen hours because when he went through the weigh station he found he was overweight and his had to pay a fine but the company he was transporting the load for would not send the funds because he is an owner-operator. He had to wait for someone (me) to send him the funds and then wait for the weigh station to open to pay. It seems to me that trips that take a much greater time than I expect. He doesn't like to talk on the phone while he's driving but we also don't talk alot when he's parked. I don't know what to make of all this.

I am very lucky with my BF who is a truck driver. We talk on a daily basis and text everyday. We make sure of that. And they do have to wait for long periods of time at some places. That is the nature of the job. At some places you can't talk on your cell phone when you are delivering a load. And driving takes alot out of a trucker.Just be patient and things will work out.It takes a special strong person to date a truck driver.I would not trade what i have with my BF for anything in the world. We love eachother very much and that is what keeps us going.
