I am 11 weeks old. my first pregnancy i didn't have much of a problem with the pregnancy related acne. this time i have been affected on my shoulders, upper back, face, and neck. My doctors office told me to wait until i see my doctor again to discuss it with him because even in the same office different doctors have different opinions but she said to check with the company. i was wanting to try just an acne body wash so i called the question line of neutrogena. they said that their products have never been tested but it is mild ingredients. has someone expereinced this already?

I use stridex pads with sycilac acid every day. In the books, it says to not use those kinds of topical medications, but my doctor said to not worry about it. My daughter is just fine from my first pregnancy, so I don't worry. They say you are not supposed to do sooo many things. My doctor just told me to live my life. Don't be stupid and smoke and drink heavily...things like that, but you can't stay away from everything. Fish for example: they say stay away from most of it because of mercury, yet studies have shown that fish is very healthy and blah blah blah. So again, live your life. Be responsible, but don't be neorotic.

I found out that sylic acid... I think that's how it's spelled shouldn't be used during pregnancy I asked my doc. and he said not to worry...(I hadn't heard that at all when I was pregnant the first time) theres always something during my first pregnancy i was told I should be using some kind of sugar substitute by one of my co-workers...this year they reported it to be ok to use....if it's not one thing it's another...I've switched my make-up and I think that helps...I use physician's formula powder instead of the liquid stuff i used to use...I don't if it actually helps or not...

I haven't used anything.  I am scared to actually.  I don't like taking anything period during pregnancy but I do know proactive says do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding.  thanks for the help!

I agree with Molly. Check your ingredients on all the products you use very carefully. Even if the acne is hormonally related (likely the case) and might not respond to antibiotics, it is very important that you do not subject yourself or your lil one to harmful chemicals from daily contact to products (i.e. shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotions, etc.). An interesting tidbit - the FDA has only banned 11 ingredients in our personal care products, whereas the EU has banned over 1100. It is very important to do your own research. Best wishes...I have a bit of the lovely prego acne myself. Cheers...

Check the ingredients and read labels VERY carefully.  Over the counter products that are medicated are almost ALL not considered proven safe in pregnancy.  If it has salycilic acid or benzoyl peroxide in it (and this is most of them) they are not ok to use.  If it is a NON-medicated wash (I know that Neutrogena does make some that aren't medicated) it will be safe to use but probably won't do much good.  Your doctor can prescribe topical medications for your acne if you feel that it's severe enough that you want to treat it that ARE safe in pregnancy like a pg safe antibiotic cream/gel (I use erythromycin but I know there's one other that's considered safe too) and azelaic acid cream/gel.
