We went to see a finacial advisor before the birth of our child. we set up a budget, and learned where all the money was going:( I also have an Excel spread sheet that has ALL our bills on it, with the date they need to be payed beside it. Another money saver is, I only go to the grocery store once every two weeks with a LIST. Amazing how much money you save when you stick to your list. And I use Coupons now, lots of sites online where you can get coupons even free stuff. I got a couple bags of dog food FREE. I love free stuff:) Hope this helps:) One more thing...KIJIJI I sell everything I don't need anymore...especially baby stuff, cars, housewares....and put cash in my pocket:)

This is the story of my life, lol. My husband and I have lived beyond paycheck to paycheck for years (overdraft protection from the bank). Luckily we have no credit cards, just paid our car off, so the only debt we have is our mortgage. I've tried to pare down our bills down but we are still broke all the time!!! Its very frustrating!

we used to feel like that but i found that if you pay a little bit each week & when the bills come in they are not so big so i have $215.00 each week and i dived up between 6 bills and I've found that when the they do come in we are either in front or only need to pay a few dollars i hope this helps and remember there is always light at the end of the tunnel :)

I feel your pains!!!! My husband is just returning to work after being unemployed for 8 months. We have no vehicle payment, we have a small loan against our home that will be paid off in 3 months. We are fortunate that we have an outside wood stove for heat and heating our water. No cable bill, but a few utility bills and times are still tight for us. I started selling things on Ebay with great surprise, people will buy just about anything. Last month, I made about $500 on stuff that I had here at the house or in storage. Clothes, jewelry, nick nacks and even broken electronics. It has been a great supplement to our income and I recently opened a storefront on Etsy for other items. I can do this from home in my PJ's and with my remaining time, I get to go shopping yard sales, flea markets, thrift stores to find more things to sell. It allows me to do it on my time, schedule and not take away from my family. I also get the satisfaction of contributing financially to the house hold. A quick story, I had been given a black leather skirt that I didn't care for. It was a Jacyln Smith skirt from Kmart. Used mind you. It sold on Ebay for over $50. True story!!!!

The best thing my husband and I ever did was pay off our credit cards (and other debts) and say good ridance! Before that, we were living paycheck to paycheck and being able to pay our bills but then having next to nothing left for food and gas (and we thankfully didn't have a kid at the time). Check out: http://www.daveramsey.com/fpu/home/ His course is what got us started on the right path. Today we have two paid for cars and no other outstanding debt except our home. It can be done, you just have to set your mind to it and be on the same page as the spouse. I wish you lots of luck!

I totally know how you feel. My husband and I were having some problems as well. Luckily we got back a good tax return, and paid off our car (saving us $200/mo) which of course comes in really handy to catch up on things. I don't know if you are a faithful person (religious just doesn't seem like the right word :-) ) but I pray every night, and it makes me feel better. I'm not sure exactly what kind of advice might help you, but a big money saver for us has been our grocery bill. I have a family of 5, and by using some smart planning for meals (and sticking to it) we have been able to get our grocery bill to approx. 400 per month. We spend roughly $180 est. every 2 weeks. Also, if you have credit cards, or other bills, I might have some advice on how to help with those, just post in this thread. I used to work for a credit card company, and sometimes (especially if you have been a pretty good customer in the past) they will waive a payment, or bring the acct current with a less than full payment. Feel free to ask me any questions, I'll check this thread periodically. I'll try to help if I can. I know what it's like. :-)
