Yes it is! Actually they can go days without pooping and they will be just fine. I think they say up to 5 days! If you're worried, call the doc. If you're comfortable with it, you can also stimulate him to go by using a baby wipe and wiping/massaging that area for a few seconds. If all else fails, they sell pediatric glycerin suppositories at the drugstore that you can cut in half for a little bum. Just use a little vaseline or lotion. I'm a nurse, so this is normal to me! LOL!

Not to be gross but it would really help to know: How often is he having a poopy diaper? How much is it when he goes and what is the concitency? Is his belly puffier than usual looking distended? Is he uncomfortable?

Have you tried water gripe. For some reason it would help Briana poop. But also try and watch what you eat if you are breastfeeding.

Hello. I am a pediatric nurse practitioner and this is a very common question and concern. Yes it is normal to go several days without pooping (even up to 5 days). The key is that when they are pooping what is the consistency? If it's hard, firm, or little balls then your dealing with constipation. If it is loose, regular, or soft, then it is perfectly fine and your baby's digestion is just a little slower (which is ok). Try to avoid anal stimulation and glycerin suppositories unless your baby is constipated (which means he is having hard BMs or is grunting during BM). You don't want his body to get used to this or dependent on this to have bowel movements. Hope this helps.

It is normal for your baby to not poop regularly especially if being breastfed. If you are breastfeeding your baby can go 10 days without pooping with out any need for alarm. It just means that your little one is using up all of the nutrients he is getting from you, and there is not any left over for him to pass. If you feel like something else is going on or your baby doesnt poop by the 11 day, you might want to call your doctor. Iwould not recommend giving him any medication.

Same thing happened with my son, sometimes he wouldn't have one for 2-3 days! He is one now but at the time I asked his doctor about it and he said it's normal! I would be concerned if he is in pain or has rock hard pellet type poopies though.

I'm told that this is very normal. My son went from having several poopie diapers everyday to only having 1 or 2 a day. My pedi told me that this is normal and that he's just getting in a routine.
