I think the biggest money saver that I have done is unplugging any appliance that is not in use (coffee maker, microwave). Especially the ones that have a clock or light that is constantly on. I keep the big things like the TV and computer hooked up to a surge protector so that at the end of the day I just shut it off.

that is a great idea i never thought of how much energy my coffee maker is using for running a clock i don't need
