that's your situation, not mine.

walmart is a farther drive for me to get to since I live in the middle of nowhere. I also don't like to add to their business. We grow most of our food/raise it because it's cheaper for us. The only thing we'd go to walmart to get is diapers [which is cheaper for us to buy online with coupons and get delivered], or dog food, which we get cheaper at the local grain elevator. For basic groceries, we don't need much beyond milk and bread. That's MY situation. I don't feel it's worth my time to drive farther for milk on sale. Didn't realize i'd have to give a life story or get somewhat reprimanded that it isn't financially beneficial for us. sheesh. I've been without internet for months before because we didn't have the extra money. If any of us are THAT poor, we have no reason to have internet. It's a luxury that can and has been easily nixed here.

Meijer's is half an hour closer. That's where we go.

You won't get the same in store specials that the local grocery offers many deals are not advertised! Just because the milk eggs and bread are cheaper don't think the whole store is. I have found that I do not save any money by going to walmart I just buy things I did not intend to.
Also a comment about what happens when the local stores close down: local/ employee owned stores donate massive amounts of money to the communities they serve such as the local school organizations churches victims of fires the list of ways these stores help communities is endless.

Thank You for this tip. I live in an apartment and can't get most of what I need at Target since they don't do most groceries, and with a 2 year old in tow I have no desire to go to multiple stores, and apartment living means no gardening, of course. Since the price of gas is so high this saves me time and money, and since Wal-mart is a major employer in this area I feel I'm supporting local families. I get all my meat at a local butcher, but everything else I try to get in one place so I'm not wasting gas. This tip really saves me a lot of time and gas money.

happy to hear Amy you can afford not to shop at walmart, if you have extra $$ I have tons of extra time worth $$$, unfor due to a car accident and whiplash I was taken out of working a great job in an Engineering Office 24hrs short of qual. for EI meaning NO MATERNITY LEAVE $$, so now I find myself in line at walmart, it saves the effort of having to drive between stores, and when you have a bad back any extra driving saved is worth $$$$$$, I just don't do it at the busy time, early afternoon on mondays/tuesdays is a great time to hit up walmart. But that's just my situation and I assume a lot of other mothers situations with limited income.

I would rather pay a bit extra than go to walmart where I can NEVER get out of the dang store. With two kids sitting there even longer for all the ad stuff they have to do. Sorry, that's one case where my time is worth more than my money.

As far as I know we don't have Target close to me, rumour has it that we may be getting one. Good to know they'll price match. As for walmart not being cheaper because you grab other things on way out, that is called self control, and price matching if it bankrupts a local business I'm sorry, better it then me. I choose to be a MOTHER OF GUILT FREE shopping.

I started doing this too, it is fantastic! I saved about $50 this weekend by ad-matching & couponing at walmart this weekend. They even match fruit prices!!!!

In the end, I think you just have to shop at the store you like most! But try to never go without your coupons and visiting me @ www.havingfunsaving.com ;)

It might be a time saver but what happens when the other stores go out of business? They can price anyway they like since they have no one to compete with.

fyi, they don't do buy 1 get 1 free price match, but as for most other long as the item is exact same brand name and size they will honour most price match.
