I've been reading a lot of posts that say they've found some great FREE products or have found ways to save money and that people should message them for more information.

Is it just me that's completely weary of these types of posts? If you're information is so great, why not post what people need to know from the start? What's with the secret messages? If I was the monitor of this forum, I would delete everyone of these posts.

Anyone have any experience with what people are emailing and if things are actually ligit?

These are probably multi-level marketing businesses. Some are scams, some are not. I'm a little surprised that this is what this forum is about (so many of these posts are about personal messages) You can make laundry detergent that is very cheap, environmentally safe, and great...there are recipes for these things...and you don't have to buy them from anyone, just your local grocery store or hardware store. Be careful. Most of the people are well-meaning, but it is a business....they are trying to make money at home, and that's good for them, but make sure you do your research. I've been involved in several multi-level marketing businesses....they are all the same. Some people do well, others do not.

Jenelle, the reason that we post the way that we do is not to annoy anyone - and I apologize if my post has annoyed you.

We simply want to give moms the chance to connect with us personally if they are interested in shopping for safer and healthier products and in saving money. What I do, is provide information in order to educate consumer regarding the dangers of toxins which our found in many household and personal care products - many people are not aware that we are constantly exposing ourselves and our children to substances which are linked to cancer, asthma, allergies, eczema, and various disorders of the central nervous system.

We have found a store that first and foremost makes SAFER, HEALTHIER products that are focused on prevention while also being better quality, more effective, more cost effective and more convenient.

We refer others to try out this store.

We don't advertise the company's name in these forums, because it is against their policy. But we can introduce them one on one, by explaining all the details of how the program works.

No scam - just smart shopping

Ok i have to put in my 2cents. First off i just love how to get you caught up in there gimmicks and still not tell you what they are trying to "help save money" they talk about all these things that "kill our children" well lets see i use products in my home and my child is very healthy and is not dieing of any posionious chemicals non of us are dyeing and noone is sick! If your trying to make it a better envioroment and chemical free and "trying to save children" then just post it i think they all should be reported for spamming due to they still dont give out the info they beat around the bush about it and still dont tell you how to "save money" this is a community for Saving money Tips and i yet to see a actual post about saving money. there are 100's of that "free products" but still noone actually gives you the info with out a private message. So if its not a scam, selling crap, or gimmick then just give out the dang info and stop trying to scare people about chemical and harmful crap. If you live in a huge city you need to be more worry about the air your child breathes then being a clean mom and chemicals in the home. cause i know i am a mother and my son is 11 yrs old and has never played with cleaning chemicals never drink anything he was not supose to and if all this stuff was poisoning him i dont think he would be 5'5 1/2 and in perfect health. I think if your a responsible parent and dont over use products there is nothing ot worry. I just hate it when people try scarring people into what they want. I am all about saving the enviroment try not being so wasteful and try teaching your children about not being wasteful. try planting gardens and what not. try not over producing children so we are so over populated try with true educational things and ways to save the planet. try to be a better planet so we are not useing every last resource earth has. And again if your truely wanting everyone to be Eco-Friendly then just post it and not beat around the bush about it!

I have to ask a question. I know it appears that these post you are talking about are about 'making money' but has any one taken the time to look at the information? I get my products for free...and in the beginning I received 30-40% off because I purchase from the manufactorer. I have also contributed to this community by posting about how I save while keeping a greener safer home. I can sare that information with you as well....I love helping other moms save and lead a healthier life.

Also these post are not about making money to everyone. Personally I want other plp to learn what I learned. All the 'name brand' products contain chemicals that are poisoning us, and killing our children. I dont know about everyone but I am not willing to take the risk and keep cleaning supplies, shampoo, body wash, make up and pantry items that are going to kill my children or slowly poison my family. That is what my post are about.

I hope I am not coming across and rude...I am just so passionate about what I do and I love sharing this information. I hope this may help. :)

I know that I once contacted someone with one of those posts that everyone seems to be referring to and the lady told me I had to spend $45 a month on household products and I could make money by referring other people. I don't spend near that on those products. My parents did that stuff for years with melaluca, it was ok. They didn't know enough people to make much but we got stuff. LOTS of stuff way more than we needed and there were 5 of us in the house. So before you sign up for anything really consider the cost. It may be legit but that doesn't mean it is best for everyone. And I totally agree that they need to keep their ads and posts in the proper forum. Seems like every community I am in I see the same posts saying the same thing.

I agree this isn't the place for these posts! It takes me forever to sort through the thread lists because of all of these! I don't want to deny anyone their chance at making money, but again, post in the places available to do that. And there are other ways to keep your home chemical free (i've said several) that don't involve signing up for some company. THOSE methods should be what's discussed here, not the others. Hopefully someone does do something about it.

Here are the guidelines from the Circle of Moms community management team, which are (or should be) common knowledge to all administrators and moderators of communities.

Ladies, here's an update on our no solicitation policy:

Our community frowns upon solicitations, so please do not post them here. There are a number of places on Circle of Moms where you can post about your business: a community dedicated to work from home opportunities, and the Mom Store, where you can place an add for your business or product: Here are the links:

Work-from-Home Business Opportunities Community:

http://www.circleofmoms.com/group.php?en...

Mom Store:

http://www.circleofmoms.com/store.php

The following are considered solicitations and are not allowed:

- Work from home recruitment pitches

- Dieting ads

- Personal business ads

- Posting diaper codes

- Posting requests for votes in a contest (such as requesting for members to vote for your child in something).

- Posts asking for ideas on how to work from home. These are asking members to solicit which is not allowed. Please visit the Circle of Moms Store or the Work-From-Home community for ideas.

Catherine Linn

*****************************

As a moderator of a larger community on CoM, I have to tell you that we have received multiple complaints about the content of the threads posted on this community, and have forwarded the information to the management team.

If you notice, you have over 300,000 members, yet the only ones posting are the ones trying to make some cash off of the other members......I imagine that there are about 299,985 people who are completely disenchanted with the turn this community has taken. What a shame. This would have been such a great idea for a forum if it hadn't been overrun by work from home and get stuff free (but "I' also make money from 'you' clicking this link") advertisements.

To the solicitors:

Sorry, but if these 'ads' you post weren't a scam, you'd simply tell other members your solutions rather than asking them to contact YOU so you could make a buck off of a mom trying to budget her family.

I have experience with what these women are sharing with you and it is 100% legitimate. I saved $30 in my first month alone and am well on my way to making my home chemical free. I was shocked to hear what was in some of the products I was using before like fiberglass and wood chips in my laundry detergent - no wonder our kids skin reacts to it!! In a reply to someone else's post - we're not telling you that chemicals are "killing your family" but did you know that stay at home moms are the fastest growing demographic developing cancer? And our households have some of the poorest air quality? If you could use products that work just as good or better, cost less money, and were better for your family why wouldn't you want to try it??

I work a full time very hectic job. My dream since my daughter was born is to be able to put family first. I have tried several multi-level marketing businesses to make my dream come true, but so far none of them have worked. However, I refuse to give up. I have changed my way of thinking. Instead of trying to make money so I can put my family first I am offering a service to those who want it. I have never, nor will ever want to sell a product to someone who doesn't want it, but how do you know you don't want a product if you are not informed about it. I think we are all put on this earth to help each other and the more we do of that the better off we will be. Maybe I sell a product you want, maybe not. Either way it is o.k.

Jamie you are absolutely right and I couldnt have said it better myself. I think it is misunderstood that is all I am trying to get across is that there is an alternative to using these harsh chemicals in our homes and just because our families are not sick now doesnt mean they wont become later because of all the toxins in our life.

I am just offering information for plp who want to pratice prevention now and not later :)

I am not promoting any business, I am just sharing information on products that I totally love and have changed my life.

I agree that this isn't the right thread for this, but its here, so I'll comment on it here. I don't know if you read all of the posts on here or not, but I am one of the ones advocating more natural products and limiting the use of chemicals, and I am not selling anything. I agree that the air we breathe is just as much of an issue as anything in our homes, and we pay more to live in an area that is a fair distance from downtown, or chemical plants. The danger in the chemicals that we are talking about isn't from the child drinking or ingesting the chemicals. Think of how "good" Febreeze smells, or how strong Clorox smells when you use it. All the smell is going into your system, and its pure chemicals. The fact that your son is growing according to his genetics doesn't mean that there couldn't be a build up of these things in his system. And maybe its not, and you are one of the lucky ones. However, the rates of cancer and other diseases are so much higher now than they were before all of these things were introduced into our households on a daily basis, so its logical to me to keep them out as much as possible. Is my house as sterile as yours, most likely not. However, our body has antibodies to fight germs, it doesn't have antibodies to fight chemicals. It's being said now that our bodies are being crippled by all the antibacterials that we use by inhibiting our bodies natural defense systems. If we get sick, we then have antibodies for that disease for the future.
I also agree that we should be advocating things to our children, such as planting trees, gardens, etc. You talk about doing good things for the planet, and not using every last resource but all the chemicals get into our water systems and soil, and are transferred into our food and water.
I am usually a to each their own kinda gal, but in the case of our planet, we have to share it, so it benefits us all to treat her better. There are things I can improve on as well.

Lots of legit MLM companies have very stringent rules about "advertising" or using their name without their consent. They do this to keep people from doing/saying unflattering things or making crazy claims. However I would also guess there are some non-legit things out there too.

I am so glad to hear that other moms are making the time and doing the research on products that we use in our home. A lot of others that I speak with dont even know or much less seem to care.
Michelle..I know one of the reason I try and 'friend' someone on fb or com is because a lot of the times messages dont make it though and when I follow up with them they say the never received it. So I friend them so we can both stay in touch and they can get the information the requested.
Thanks Tanya for sharing your input as well. ;O)

I guess Michelle, maybe think of it this way...When you go to the grocery store and have a coupon for $1.00 off a specific product, you actually need to buy that product to get the $1.00 off don't you? I empathise with your issue though about the link and having to add someone as your friend...you don't need to add someone as a friend to talk to them about something on here, that is why they have the option for you to send private messages if you don't want to make it a public discussion. Just a quick note, a lot of home based opportunities whether it be as a customer standpoint or a business builder standpoint, usually there is some kinds of membership fees or you have to spend a ton of money to really have a successful business, But NOT ALL of the home based opportunities are like that. That is why it is such a good idea to do your research on the company, the opportunity as a customer and business builder and also on the products. If you haven't done any research into it then it probably isn't a good idea to just say ya sure I will join, then 3 months down the road say why the heck did I do that.
It is great though when you find a company like the one I shop at has completely NO RISK when you decide to try out their products, if you don't like the products, the company or the business aspect if you become a business builder, you can cancel your membership at anytime and there are NO QUESTIONS ASKED. If the company your becoming a member of doesn't have that option then Iwouldn't suggest trying it out. I have had my experience with a few of those types of businesses and trust me it wasn't exactly pretty on how much it cost me in the end. I have learned my lesson and now that I know that there is No risk with where I shop now and I can return anything I don't like, I have No issues what so ever.
It also helps when the person you are talking to gives you all the information and doesn't hide anything when they are telling you what your inquiring about. A good Business builder will always be honest and straight forward about what they are offering you.

I felt the SAME way and contacted one of them. She sent me a link, I never clicked on it because I wasn't interested in being sold something and that's the vibe that I got. Also in order for her to talk to me she wanted to "friend" me as opposed to talking to me on this wall, so I wasn't interested in "friending" a person I do not know. I just want to save money not buy into something to save me money.

That's Great to here about what you do to be eco friendly and what you do to make your home safer Jamie. I am all for that myself. The thing we all need to consider though is that there are millions of uneducated people out there that are not aware of all the things that are so bad for us, for example the harsh chemicals in all our household products. There are not enough people out there that are willing to take the time to do the research like you and I to find out what we really have in our homes.

Now I know that there are many people on here that promote their business opportunities to make a quick buck with the referals they get from their responses. But there are also people on here that legitimately want to share the opportunity to get these healthier and safer products into everyones homes to make a difference in lives rather than just see the positive dollar amount in their bank account.

I for one am the type of person that loves helping people. Don't get me wrong, I need to earn a living too, but altogether I do what I do so I can help inform people about what they really have in their home and how they can shop and save money too on better products that aren't so bad for them and their families. If more people were like you and did their research, made their own cleaning products and bought organic foods and other organic products then we wouldn't have the opportunities to share these types of products with anyone. Because so many people are ignorant to all the facts about the harmful products they have in their homes, it gives us an opportunity to show them how to be safer.

I for one am extremely happy that I responded to one of the ads I saw on Circle of Mom's a while back because it gave me the incentive to help more people. I can appreciate the fact though that there are way too many people that are just looking to make more money rather than actually focusing on really and truthfully helping others with the opportunity that they were given.

Too sum this all up here, shopping with the company I shop with right now has not only given me an opportunity to clean my home out of all those harsh unsafe products I had but it has in fact saved us a lot of money too. This is where the money saving tip comes into effect with these postings you are seeing. I shop for all my common household products from my cleaners, personal care products, beauty products to my health products like vitamins and such. Everytime I shop I save a good chunk of money plus I get free products too just for shopping. So you can see a little more as to why what we are sharing isn't just for our benefit...well it isn't at least for me, it's for the sole purpose of helping other households save money on better, safer and eco friendly products.

Does this make a little more sense?

It's terrifying how many chemicals are in EVERYTHING! I went through a few years ago and dumped just about everything out; not only because of the chemicals, but also because so many companies perform animal testing. Anything listed with parabens (most shampoos, conditioners, lotions) went in the trash. Fingernail polish is one of the worst, and people don't even think about ituse essential oils for the fragrances! I also threw out the furniture polish, air fresheners, and no longer burn scented candles unless they are soy and I switched my husband and I over to an olive oil based soap with no parabens or laurel sulfate, and my son uses an eco friendly wash. I just started making my own laundry soap, and will be making my own body soaps soon as well. I've done it before, but need to get into it again. I can control the ingredients that way. As far as food goes, its pretty scary too, but I try to buy organic and hormone free as much as I can afford to.

Absolutely Jenelle, I can completely understand where your coming from. The thing is with a lot of home based businesses there are parent companies and sister companies that promot for the Parent companies. Unfortunately due to legalities the name of the Parent company is not allowed to be advertised without the permission of that company. It really does suck but sometimes it's a great way to weed out the people that really are not interested in learning about it.

I personally work from home and the company I work with is an extremely reputable and legitimate company. They have been around for 25 years and have been listed with the BBB for over 20 of those years.

Now I am not sure if you were looking for an opportunity to work from home but if you are then you are more than welcome to message me back and I can share the details of what I do to earn an income from my home.

You are right..saying what we want is the purpose and I agree that there should be no cloak and dager.

I have tried to post it the plain out in the open way and my posts get deleted because plp report me as solicitating my 'home business' which all I am doing is trying to post information about harmful chemicals...not to scam or rip plp off. I work for a legit company with scientifically tested products that change plps lives.

I will be honest yes I do make money for referring plp. Many other companies do the same they pay their customers to refer other new customers, how many times have you told a friend about a restauraunt you ate at or a sale that was at your fav store...it is the same thing. Accept this company pays you for doing so, they appreciate your business and want to show you.

I believe Tally said it best as well that it is company policy that we cannot use their name to advertise. They do not want it to be tainted with mainstream advertisement or companies and believe it or not many other companies have the same policies...Mary Kay for instance. They just dont want plp to make snap judgments about a company.

I know that vinegar and baking soda can be an alternative to some household cleaners but what about the Formaldehyde in your childrens shampoo? It is a highly toxic substance and one of the most common indoor air pollutants. It is a highly suspected cancer-causing agent. Manufactures can legally use over 30 different trade names for this chemical. Doesnt that scare anyone? We are being posisoned in our homes by chemicals and by the food we eat. Meat is soak in Ammonia for crying out loud.....

Well I could go on for days...LOL ;)

Really and truely thanks for being honest with me. It gives me insight on what things I can do to try and get the word out about how we are being poisoned and dont even know it.

I am not trying to be rude either, although I am sure it comes across that way. Ask anyone that knows me, I am pretty laid back.

I am also big on keeping the chemicals out of my home. As a cancer patient and a woman with hormonal issues I have done a ton of research into all the chemicals and xenoestrogens that are all around us. I don't want myself or my family coming into contact with these compounds either. I can understand that you would want to do the same, and would want to share the information, but why not just share it? Say, hey, this is what I do to help my family. I think that's the biggest issue some of us have. It's all done cloak and dagger, and email me, and the link has your name in it, which means you are getting something out of not free sharing the information. I know not everyone does it this way, but it does seem that that's how some of it is set up, and I just don't agree with it. That being said, those of you that do make money that way have the right to do so. But I have the right not to agree with the way it is done, and to feel that these forums aren't the place for it. I keep my home chemically minimal by using baking soda and vinegar for just about everything, and have posted advice on doing that.

Nothing I've said changes anything, and it doesn't really matter, because we all have the right to say what we want on here, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. :)

I just looked at the main convo listing page for this group and out of 20 posts, and out of those 20, 13 of them are about these money making oppotunities, only 7 are people posting something appropriate for this forum. I am not trying to start a war here, but I have a feeling that if it keeps up, this group may get smaller. I for one probably won't keep coming back, because with a 1 year old son, I have limited time to browse on the computer, and those other posts take up so much of the main convo listing, and I don't have time to broswe through multiple pages of listings to find conversations that might actually be useful to me. Again, sorry if this offends anyone pursing that line of making money, but I just don't feel that this forum is a good place for it.

It seems to me that the way these moms make money (and why they don't post is right out) is because the way they get thier money from these companies is by the referrals. If it was posted right out, there would be no referral. I appreciate that its a way to make money at home, and I am not dissing the moms who do it. I just don't agree with a company that is set up that way. Our society is too much about money, and not enough about freely sharing information that would benefit society on the whole. It feels like sales to me. The only problem I have with it on these forums, is because its supposed to be a sharing information kind of place, not a place to make money off of other people. It may not be the case, but it feels more like the moms that are on here and do those posts, are on the site in order to make money, not to be a part of the community. I apologize if this is not the case, I am just saying how it seems sometimes.
