I am hearing conflicting reports that no it cant and yes it can. I dont know the truth. My son was diagnosed autistic, but we are looking for a second opinion and I was wondering if there was any medical test a Dr. can run.

I think your best bet is to go to a pediatric neurologist. They did give my son some testing and observed him they were right on.

I got the diagnoses when my son was 4 it came from two different places the pediatrician and a specialist at Schmeiding Center. Schmeiding center ran tests that determined all that we needed to know. He is now 17 but is not as severe as some. But I had to accept it for what it was and become active with the therapists, drs and teachers to prepare him for the future. By all means get a second opinion and of course the genetic testing.

Sometimes autism is a symptom of a genetic defect (there are several), which can be tested for. You would need a referral to a geneticist. Sometimes it is also caused by a metabolic disorder or food allergies, in which case it is also a symptom. And sometimes, the cause is never determined and you simply have to accept it for what it is.
