Hi all! I'm pretty new here and was wondering if anyone has a child with Cleft Lip/Palate? My youngest who is 14 months old today (yea!! lol) Was born with both. He had his lip revision done at 3 months and are gearing up for the palate repair this Tuesday. Needless to say, Mom is nervous and a lil scared:( Can anyone whose been through this surgery let me know what to expect post-op and maybe tell me you're experience with it? Thanks so very much, I truly appreciate all the input right now:)

I have a 10 year old son and a 6 year old daughter and both were born with cleft palates (they also have Stickler Syndrome).

Both their surgeries went great, and they handled arm restraints and soft foods very well. The biggest thing right now is their speech, they have been in speech therapy for years and they have both gotten better...but its still a long road ahead. Some advice though...find a great childrens dentist. My kids see the dentist 2 x a year, they don't have very good teeth and they are both missing we are trying to stay ahead with going to the dentist and the orthodontist.

Good luck with everything...I know how stressful it can be at times.

My daughter was born with cleft palate. The surgery went great! She is a wonderful little girl. She has other issues as well but as for the surgery her doctor was awesome and kept us totally at peace with what she needed. She had her surgery at 9 months. She was allergic to demerol so the end of the surgery was interesting since you only find these things out as it is happening with kids. Good luck.  If you have another question I will try to answer better!
