My daugther was born with VATER Syndrome also known as VECTERAL Syndrome, I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this or has gone through it and has any advise or knows kind of what I can expect. If you haven't heard of it and have questions feel free to ask!

I recommend using Dr Levitt for colorectal repair. He was at Cincinnati Children's but has moved to another hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

No she doesn't have a colostomy yet, she is going to the bathroom just fine. We have to dialate her fistula twice a day and we go to the doctors on Nov. 11th and I think they are going to be giving us a bigger dialator... Not to sure about that yet tho. Anyways, yes my daughter is a fighter and I can tell yours is too! Good luck with everything and me and my family will be praying for you guys too!

Quoting Aleah:

Yes, I have heard of it and the genetics team think my daughter might have this. her chromosomes tests came back normal so they are leaning toward this VECTERAL. My daughter was born with a cleft lip and palate, and imperforated anus with a recto-vaginal fistula, and some heart abnormalities... We are expecting her first surgery on December 28th and it will be for her lip and some reconstrution on her nose.

LeeAnn has a imperforated anus with a recto-vaginal fistula as well for a while she was passing maconium through her vaginal canal. Does your daughter have a colostomy yet? they did LeeAnn's surgery when she was two days old. It has beena crazy ride so far but she is a fighter and I have a feeling that your little one is too I will be praying for you and your family! Does your daughter have any renal issues?

V stand for Vertibrate

A for Anus

T for Trechia (SP?)

E for Esophugus

R for Renal

She was born with an imperferate anus, no bladder, and only one non-functioning kidney and a severe cloaca (SP?) Her colon is connected to her vagina, and her ureter was attached to her uterus. She is jumbled inside that the doctors don't know what her anatomy is.
