My mother sent me this poem when my daughter was diagnosed with multiple disabilities..Jt has really helped me thru 27 years so far!!! "Heavens very Special Child" A meeting was held quite far from earth, "It's time again for another birth" , Said the angels to the Lord above, "This special child will need much love ." His progress may seem very slow, Accomplishments he may not show; And he'll require extra care From the folks he meets down there. He may nor run or laugh or play,His thoughts may seem quite far away. In many ways he won't adapt, And he'll be known as handicapped. So let's be careful where he's sent, We want his life to be content. Please, Lord, find the parentswho, Will do a special job for You.They will not realize it right away,The leading role they're asked to play. But with this child sent from above, Comes stronger faith and richer love. And soon they'll know the privilage given, In caring for this gift from heaven.Their precious charge, so meek and mild IS HEAVENS VERY SPECIAL CHILD...

Hope you don't mind me sharing this one too?

Downs Syndrome Creed

My face may be different
But my feelings the same
I laugh and I cry
And I take pride in my gains
I was sent here among you
To teach you to love
And god in the heavens
Looks down from above
To him I'm no different
His love knows no bounds
It's here among you
In cities and towns
That judge me by standards
That man has imparted
But the family he's chosen
Will help me get started
For I'm one of his children
So special and few
That Came here to learn
The same lessons as you
That Love is acceptance
It must come from the heart
We all have the same purpose
Though not the same start
The Lord gave my life
To love and embrace
And I'll do it as you do
Just at my own pace.

I was given this poem years ago. My son was 6 at the time. This poem helped me find strength and courage when I needed it most.
