My daughter started at a Community College first. Got all of her basic courses for half the price & state funding paid for it all. She has just in the last 2 semesters started at UL at Louisiana & has had to keep working & get a student loan. The upside is her major was changed from English to Pre-Med. So all the student loans she'll have to make, can be paid off by a Hospital during her residency. If she signs a contract to work for them for a certain length of time. To reach Medical School she also needs her average at 3.5 or above. Lucky for her she is a 4.0 student since she started. Best of Luck with aid. One thing I do know is you have to ask for everything. They do not throw the free opportunities in your lap. Asking an advisor is a wise choice. Hope this can help?

I am grateful that my son got a full scholarship. He scored very high on the SAT's.

ANything with the term "GRANT" in it, stay away from all types of "LOANS" if you can. There should be some local scholarships in your area like Lyons Club, Rotary Club...things like that. Look for any type of scholarships as well. Don't be afraid to play the "race card" either. If you are white...go to a prodominately black school, if you are black do the opposite, if you are hispanic...you are a minority and they have scholarships for that. There are plenty of ways to get through college. Let me know how things work out.
