Has anyone had a child through IVF and the child have physical disabilities or defects?

We had a 7 month old through IVF. He is beautiful and healthy, I wouldn't trade him for anything. When he was born we dicovered a very rare problem with his hands. He has a difficiency in his fingers and hands. The fingers are lacking some bones, and the hands are very small. He is adjusting fine, but doctors can't really tell us what caused it. It is similar to if a child was born with a club hand. I can't help but wonder if it had something to do with the IVF cycle. The embryos that were implanted did not look strong from the beginning. I think the doctor was even surprised that we got pregnant. Just wondering if there are any others out there who have had any similar stories.

It was a fresh transfer? Not frozen? I am not sure that it had anything to do with IVF. Speaking hypothetically, if that sperm and that egg came together naturally, it would most likely have the same result, wouldn't it? Unless the thinking is that, in the natural situation, there would have perhaps been "stronger swimmers" that would have reached the egg first? Hmmmmm. Good question, Kim. I am anxious to hear other comments.
