Wondering if anyone has had trouble with constant ear infections in your child with CP? My son gets them a lot but only in the ear on the side of his body that is affected by his CP, could the CP be a cause of them?

yes! we also had problems with ear infections. my daughter had more than 10 in one year... to the point where it was starting to affect her hearing... she got tubes placed and has no problems since. i too think her ear infections are due to her cp. but can not prove it (her head size and shape has not changed much in the last 3 1/2 years...any way I don't think that her ear cannels(sp?) are angled correctly due to this.)

I think it depends on what your child is like my son had never had an ear infection up untill last year and he is 6yrs but last year we coped 5 ear infections and i was told it wasnt because of his cp but a normal child illness that goes along side with some of the horrible cold viruses usually forming in the way of cold virus and then a month later an ear infection....... Then i also found out that my sons ear infections are a sign of his auto immune syndrome and that things in his blood work are acting up.... I find its one of those things no one has an answer for.

I don't know if the CP causes the ear infections but my son gets them all the time. We are about to get the 3rd set of tubes in 1 1/2 years. My son's ear infections are worse on the side that does not seem to be as affected by his CP though.
