What does everybody think of jolly jumpers? My plunket nurse said they are bad to use and I should get rid of it. She said they can harm the baby's spine and are bad for the development of the foot muscle. My boy had already started playing in one and he loved it but now we have stopped using it.

Plunket don't approve of ANYTHING! My boy likes his jumper. I'm sure it doesn't hurt them for 10 minutes or so - sure, if you leave them in there all day it might stunt their development :)

I totally agree with Emma. All my children used one. The oldest 2 are now 11 &13 and are heavily involved in sport, so it did them no damage. They are fully supported by the harness!

i have used 1 for all 3 of my kids and i never found anything wrong, i dont believe the harm the spine...they wouldnt be on the market if they did. if anything, i think they help strengthen the spine. as for the feet, so long as you dont have baby down so low that they use the sides of their feet it's fine.

my oldest two spent alot of time in theirs, they loved it and it helps strengthen the leg muscles that are needed to stand and start walking.

the jolly jumpers have been around since the late 60's so they must be okay.  these days, there are too many people that say "oh this is no good and that is no good"  but go with what you feel is right for your baby, he is your baby, you will instinctively know whats ok and whats not ok with most things. i say if he enjoys it, let him bounce & play in it =)
