14mth old throwing up his whole milk

Hi all,

I have been trying to get my 14mth old son to drink whole milk. But everytime he takes a sip he throws up. So I tried soy milk and that didnt work either. Then I tried 2 different follow up formulas - I would blend 2 scoops of his infant formula with 1 scoop follow up formula in a 6 oz bottle - no luck, he still throws it up. My doctor says that he must transition to either whole milk or a follow up formula in order to get proper nutrition and I do not know what else to do to get him to keep his milk down. Any advice out there?

I would mix whole milk with the formula first, a 25% milk 75% formula mix and over 4 weeks gradually go up. Milk: 25% week 1; 50% week 2; 75% week 3; 100% week 4.

If you have access to Goats Milk it is much easier to digest and has just as much nutirtion and good fats as cows milk without the lactose. My daughter had a tough time transitioning from breastmilk at 7 months so she was on the gentle formula untill she was 1 year and she went straight to goats milk with just a little constipation. I would go back to the formula you were using before and gradually add a bit more cows milk each time you mix it, so it gets his body used to it. If you are transitioning from breastfeeding though i'd be worried about and allergy/intollerance to milk. My daughter is severly allergic to milk and I only found out when I gave her formula for the first time with her cereal at 4 months, and she wasn't reacting to my breastmilk. Sometimes there is an underlying reason.
