I am wondering if anyone else's toddler is not in a toddler bed? When do you plan on getting one? My son is still in his crib. We are thinking of getting one for his 2nd b-day.

My pediatrician recommended keeping your little one in their crib as long as possible. No need to move them and fight the "back to bed" fight if you dont need to.. that is if they are not climbing out of the crib. My daughter is still in her crib and we dont plan to move her until she is about 2 1/2 and our youngest outgrows the bassinet. She has a crib tent to keep the cats out so she cant climb out if she wanted... she LOVES her bed so why move her? Plus then I can transition her straight to the taller twin bed and put my 2nd daughter into the crib. I know i will transition her naps first and then the night time stuff... for now she is just getting comfortable with the twin bed ( it is a bit high).. and we read books in the "big bed" and cuddle and tickle each other... for now its just a fun place, hopefully she will want to move there

My daughter switched to her toddler bed at about 14 months because she was throwing her legs over the side of the crib trying to get out. She did great in that, had about a two week period of crying when she was transitioning ( I think because it still looked like her crib, less a wall, it was a forever crib)Now, shes about 2 1/2 and I just got her a twin bed (memory foam to minimize jumping) and she loved it, no transition period at all. I do keep a baby gate up as a backup, but she hardly comes out, and shes been in it for about two months now and hasnt fallen out once. I think the toddler bed is a waste of money until you have a crib that converts to once already, which I had. Otherwise, just get a twin bed, with a rail if it makes you feel better.

Our daughter will be 2 mid June and is still in her crib. She doesn't try to crawl out and sleeps about 10 hrs a night and naps for 2 -3 hrs a day. I feel there's no rush to get to a bed if they're content in the crib.

My daughter is still in her crib. She will be 2 at the end of June. She is still in our room b cause we only have a 2 bedroom house and our 6 yr old son is in the other room. I am afraid she will get out of bed and hurt herself in our room b cause it is not baby proofed. I have not decided when I am going to put her in her own bed. We will need to redo our room first. Right now we are having problems with her getting to sleep or waking up in the middle of the night and hit her head on the crib to get our attention. I am afraid she will really hurt herself. Just need to work on one problem at a time.

@ least you've done well keeping him out of your bed. we are co-sleeping and i'd rather have her in her own bed.

We still have our 20 month old in a crib/playard, although, recently he has been climbing out. I am hoping to have him a toddler bed before he turns 2.

When My Son Was About 18 Months He Wouldn't Sleep In His Crib AnyMore. We Tried A Twin Bed With A Bed Rail And He Loved It. We Recently Received A Little Toddler Bed As A Gift And Aiden (22 Months Now) Keeps Falling Off Of It. So I Think The Twin Bed With The Bed Rail Has Worked For Us So Far.

My son was in a toddler bed for a month (at about 15 months I got him in one) He is now in a single bed and loves it. It's up to you when you want to switch. My son is a climber so when I went in to check on him and he was half way out of the crib I knew it was time. I also find with more room he sleeps so much better.

I just put my 22 month old in her toddler bed because she was at the point of climbing/falling out of her crib. Now the problem is she keeps falling out of her toddler bed and yes I have a bed rail up but she stands up and fall out over the rail. I'm stressed out every night all night that she's really going to hurt herself and I'm contemplating taking down the crib and putting the mattress on the floor. Suggestions anyone? As for my little one wandering around the house, we installed a gate on the outside of her door so she can't escape.

I feel your pain, my son learned how to climb out of his crib yesterday. Today when I put him down for a nap he climbed out 3 times before he realized that I wasn't giving in :). We planed on getting him and his older sibling bunk beds for Christmas as # 3 is due in Feb. Hopefully the crib will still work for us in the next few months or Christmas will have to come early!

My daughter is still in a crib right now. She has started to climb on EVERYTHING and my husband and I are affraid she will climb out of her crib and get hurt. Last night we converted her crib to the toddler bed but we thought it was way too high off the ground. We have a crib with a drawer underneath. She can hardly get in or out by herself and still has a good fall if she rolled out. I went ahead and ordered a regular toddler bed last night. It is made by the same company as her crib so it matches her dresser and changing table. We plan to put it up as soon as it comes in. She slept in her crib as a toddler bed last night and did just fine! Stayed in her bed all night long. But she sleeps on a cot at day care for nap, so she knows that she is supposed to stay in her bed at night. I'm planning to get new toddler bedding for her room for her birthday!!

My little guy is 22 months and still in his crib. He hasn't tried to crawl out yet but I guess I'd better start preparing and watching for a big boy bed for when that day comes. My daughter was in a toddler bed at this age. They all develope at different ages so don't worry you are not the only one and I personally consider myself lucky. At least I know when I put him to bed he's in his bed for the night and not roaming around if I'm fast asleep.

Im moving my 22 month old in a toddler bed this week. She has started to try and climb out of her cot so Im worried about her hurting herself. Also I have trouble getting her to sleep and I think being able to lie with her in her new bed will be great! Im very excited, I feel like its a major stage showing that she's not a baby anymore :)

My kids both are in toddler beds. They get out of bed at naptime and play for about 15 minutes, but they play quietly and get in bed on their own. At night, they go right to sleep, I putthem in the big bed at 18 months and they both have adjusted to it really well.

we never had a crib or toddler bed....my daughter slept in the pack'n'play for a while, then in bed w/us, but now she sleeps on the bottom bunk of a bunk bed. it had wheels, but we took them off to make it lower to the ground & we put a bunch of pillows and blankets in all of the cracks, she sleeps a good 9 hrs in there, i trust her-everything is well baby proofed!

My son is now 22 months and still in bed with me! I am guilty of getting him used to it, I wanted him next to me at every moment as an infant and so on to make sure he was ok. I will introduce the bed soon and just talk to him about it, let him know it's his for when he wants to try cuz he's a big boy now. I did the same with his brother who is almost 18 and he decided to move to his bed on his own at 2-1/2.

My son is still in his crib as well, he is 22 months old. We bought him the sheets and bedding for a toddler bed (which also fits his crib) and are re-doing a warmer room for him. But I am just not ready to put him in the toddler bed. It's to big of a step, I think....

We put our daughter in a toddler bed when she was about 11 months old. As soon as she started walking we figured it was a good time. It's a lot better then you think. We have a baby gate up so she can come from her room to our room but no where else. She is almost 2 now! It has worked good for us. It also teaches her boundaries with out being locked in a crib.

My son is 22 months his crib converts to a toddler bed but he's so not ready we tried a few weeks ago and he gets out of it pretty quickly and pretty much freaks out so I don't want to scare him. I think I'll be waiting until he's at least 2 or a little bit older he's comfy in his crib , I even still have his bumper pad in his crib when I took it off to wash he didn't sleep well at all so obviously he's not ready..there only babies once and even though I'm having another baby in less then a week I bought another conversion crib because I'm not comfortable putting him into a toddler bed just yet...Don't rush it ..my mother told me that when there ready you'll know...good luck ...

My daughter was 15 months old when we moved her from a crib to a play and pack(at the time our 3 month old needed the crib and we didn't want to buy a new one) where she slept right up until 2 weeks ago, we converted the crib into a toddler bed and the first night we heard the pitter patter of her feet running across the room to try and open her door. She still does this on occasion now, but we just put a child safety door handel on her end of the door which prevents her from opening it. From my experience whenever you move a baby, or toddler from one sleeping space to another(Crib, Play &Pack, toddler bed, twin bed) they need at least a week to get aclimated to it! First week was the toughest, but just stick with it and they will be alright! You'll eventually figure out what you will need to do in order to make the sitation work best for your familes

I am just going to skip the whole toddler bed unless I find one that's cheap enough!

My daughters 22 months. She got a cotbed but had to takes the sides of last week as she was gettin her legs stuck inbetween the bars. She moves alot in her sleep so i have put cushions down the side so if she does fall out she wont hurt herself. I fort she would climb out as soon as i leave the room so she has a stairgate on her door but she plays for a little while then when she wants to go to sleep she gets back into bed. At least she understands that the bed is to sleep in. Shes fell out a couple times but it getting better

I'm actually getting a toddler bed this month for my 21 month old.. She's pretty well behaved when it comes to bed time and tries to get into the crib herself (which of course she cant) so I think a toddler bed would be good for her.. Plus when she wakes up she tries to climb out and I worry she'll hurt herself one day.. Hopefully it'll work out! I am pretty nervous about moving her to a toddler bed but I'm positive she's ready.

my twins are 22 months old - they're on mattresses on the floor because they could climb out of their cribs - otherwise I would have kept them in as long as possible! The transitions went fairly well - although they don't go to bed as easy as before, because they know they can get out - with persistence, that too will soon change - I hope...

My daughter is in a crib still but has learned has started trying to climb out of it. For her 2nd birthday we are buying her a toddler bed. We think she is ready because when we went on vacation for a week she slept in her own twin bed the whole time and did great. She never once got out of bed (until morning) and slept better than she does in her crib.

My daughter will be 22 months tomorrow and she has been in a toddler bed for a month now. She loves her "big girl bed" and in the beginning she did a great job of staying in it, but now we are struggling. I am going to have my 2nd baby any day now, so I got the toddler bed so we could move my daughter out of the crib before the baby comes. Nap time is the hardest. I was taking me 2 hours to get her to stay in her bed long enough to fall asleep, but now it is usually 15 minutes. Nighttime is usually much easier. Despite my battles with her, I am glad that we got the toddler bed.

[deleted account]

We made the switch this weekend. I had planned to kep her in there until closer to 3. With a 3 year old son I know that life is way easier with them in baby jail =) However, she learned how to climb out of the crib so we actually bought her a twin bed and a bed rail. So far after 2 nights in it she's been doing very well. Sleeping just as well in it as she did in her crib. So still up occassionally at night, but she has been a champ staying in it and going to sleep at bedtime and naps. I hope it stays that way!

Hi Jenee, my little girl is still in her crib. I usually keep my babies in the crib until after they're 2 years old. From experience, I'd prefer it that way. I don't like the idea of my baby getting out and walking around when I'm asleep. Plus the fact that the baby is still in my room. I have a friend who's toddler, about the same age, is in her converted crib. The toddler's in her very own room so with the door closed, there's no risk of the baby walking around the house in the middle of the night. I think it's whatever you and your toddler are ready for.

My son is 21 months old and we have previously tried to convert his crib to a toddler bed and came to the conclusion that we had to convert back to a crib because he would get out and play around and fall asleep where he fell... We will eventually try it again but I am going to wait till he turns 2 or even later...

Our Mia is 21 months old and has been in a toddler bed for the past month or so, because we are expecting our second child 9/8/10. But Mia did not like sleeping in the crib, I think she felt helpless in it because she couldn't climb out of it. She likes her toddler bed because it's low to the ground and she can get out of it very easily. She still likes to sleep in our bed though, I think it's more of a comfort thing for her, she gets scared and wakes up in the middle of the night now and has done this for the past 4-6 months. I think she has nightmares and feels comfort when sleeping with me and my husband.

My 1st was out by 16 months! He started to climb out and we had hard wood floors. I was nervous so we put him in a toddler bed.

My 2nd has gotten out once, but we have carpet. And I am smarter this time around! I know that this will make life a lot harder, since he will be able to get in and out whenever he wants, so I am going to wait till he gets out 5 times. For now, I just put a gate up outside his room in case he does climb out again.

I always assumed we would make the switch when he started climbing out of the crib, but it hasn't happened. He just isn't a climber. I like the crib because when I put him in it, he stays! I'm afraid he wouldn't stay in a toddler bed yet. When it's time to move him to a bed, I'll know. It won't be long, but I'm not rushing it.

[deleted account]

my twin girls are still in their cribs and they will be 22 months in 3 days. They don't try to climb out so that is where they stay. The day that one tries to climb out will be the day that I put together their toddler beds. They copy each other so if one climbs out, the other will be right behind climbing out of her own crib.
