Clogged Duct

I have a clogged duct that started yesterday afternoon, and I've tried everything I can think of/find to try and clear it. I've tried nursing every two hours, starting on the clogged side; warm compresses then pumping (set to maximum); warm showers then nursing; nursing from above baby (found that in LLL book); even my husband tried to help.

HELP! I really don't want mastitis...

Massage always helped me w/a clogged duct. Massage before and during feed to help work out lump....also I nurse exclusively on side w/lump (pump other side as needed) until it's cleared. I know it can be painful/concerning so hang in there.

Have you tried using a breast pump? That's what I had to use. Because the pump has different setting I was able to use one that was stronger suction than my son was doing and it helped a lot! Also make sure you are calm and relaxed when nursing, stress doesn't seem to help your let down. Good Luck! Fortunately if it does turn into mastits there are antibiotics that you can take that are safe while you are nursing.
