Introducing baby food with cereal

My daughter, Avarielle, will be 4 months on March 27th. I just started her on rice cereal about 3 weeks ago as it seemed like she was either going through a growth spurt or just wanted a little more than just breast milk. Which ever it was she is content with it. Yesterday, I was eating a bagel and strawberry cream cheese......well, I put a little bit of the cream cheese on my finger and fed it to Avarielle. I know, I know......cream cheese is hardly the right thing to introduce to her, but she Loved IT! She wanted More! So it got my husband and I thinking about introducing the jar baby food to her and so we picked up a few jars today.

I know normally you can just feed your baby straight from the jar, but since Avarielle prefers her cereal a little thicker I thought about adding the jar food to her cereal and feeding her that way. I only give Avarielle rice cereal as her dinner, then I breastfeed and she usually goes down for the night...

I'm just curious if anyone else does this yet....the jar food (or mashed if you do it yourself!) and do you just feed it to your baby by its self or like I'm thinking about doing it - in the rice cereal.

P.S. Her rice cereal is ALWAYS fed by spoon-she doesn't take a bottle anyways....not that I would put cereal in a bottle anyways....I really enjoy our feeding times and Avarielle does too.

i do put rice cereal in with my sons baby food, the stage one food is kinda runny, and he like his a little thicker, my sons doctor told me to start him on veggies first then fruit cuz the fruit is sweeter and they tend to not like the veggies if they get the sweeter fruit first.....just be careful how thick you make the baby food so she don't choke on it, i usually put about a half a scoop, the one that usually comes in the can of formula, im guessing about a teaspoon, and he gets that twice a day, i would also check with your doctor to make sure that your daughter is ready for baby food.....hope this helps.....good luck..........

I started my son on rice cereal at 4 months. He started with a really runny consistency and only a few teaspoons. Within a few days I added a little extra ceral and made it a little thicker. He had had some problems pooing so I am making it with prune juice (20ml juice to 80ml water). He is 5 months now and he eats a heaped tablespoon of the cereal. I introduced the cereal first then a few days later I started the fruit Apple to start then I introduced pear, then peach and apricot. Now he has them all together. (I know they say vegies first) However more apple and pear than peach and apricot cause if he haves to much peach and apricot he gets runny poos.  I always make my own so that you know actually what is in it. I have tasted the home made and the canned food and the canned food is very sweet. Last week I introduced vegies starting with Potato, Sweet Potato and Pumpkin. The first day he only ate half the serve but day two he ate all of it. He now has 4 bottles a day, rice cereal for breakfast, puree fruit for lunch and puree vegies for dinner. He loves his food and crys around a hour or so after his bottle cause he knows food should be coming. I would recomend you still get advice from your health care professional however the health nurse said not to feed until 6 months but sometimes I think Mummy knows best!
