Joshua's struggle began Jan. 30,2010. I went into labor, got to the pushing phase. His head was delivered and then everything came to a screeching halt! His shoulders were stuck (Bilateral Shoulder Distocia) The OB pulled and pulled to no avail. They tried forceps & suction neither worked. At this Then they did a 4th degree episiotomy. At this point Joshua's heart stopped. They decided to to an emergecy 4 degree episiotomy and reach in and break his right arm. This freed him. They had to immediatly start CPR and intubate. He spent 2 weeks in NICU. Joshua weighed 11lbs 6 oz at birth. The pulling on his neck to free him caused Left Obstetrical Brachial Plexus Injury. His left arm is paralyzed. He has been a patient of Shriners Hospital. When he was 3 months old Shriners did a Nerve Graft. They took nerve from the back of his leg and implanted it in his neck. He is now able to lift the shoulder. Still nothing with the arm and hand....but we have not givin up hope or prayer!

Hello, my adoptive daughter had torticullis and a brachial plexus injury. Her neck was operated on overseas & she was receiving pt for her right arm. We continued pt in the states, but reached a plateau. After seeing several different specialists and being told that there was nothing that they could do, but please come back we want to see her. We found Two Drs that specialize in this type of injury. My daughter age 4, had muscle and tendon transfers, was in a spica cast for four weeks and has resumed pt. we began to see immediate results, like being able to lift her weak arm to her head or touch her right ear & color with her right hand.

She may need additional surgery when she's six for her thumb which we will not know for awhile. I tell you what, I am thrilled at the improved mobility now!

I'll be happy to share the names and #'s of these Drs. If anyone is interested.
