You shouldnt listen to people telling you things like that it will upset you. You are obviously a good mummy otherwise you would never have asked this question!! My daughter was born on the 5th october and she was a hefty 9lb 3oz and she is now 18lb 7oz so she is doing good to. I would say your little one is on target and if she wasnt you would be the first person to notice!! dont worry she sounds fine xx

Shelby! Don't let people make you feel bad about your babies weight! It sounds to me like you have a perfectly healthy little girl! I wanted to let you know that our daughters have been on the exact same weight tract/gain.  My daughter was born on Oct. 8th, weighing 7 pounds 9 oz...at her 4 months appt. she was 15 lbs 2 oz and just at her 6 month appt. she is now weighing 17 lbs 6 oz. We have two healthy growing girls! :o) :o)

My daughter was born on October 16. She was 6lbs 3oz. When I took her home she was 5lbs 11oz. She is 6 and a half months now and she weighs almost 14lbs (she was weighed last week).

My Daughter was born on the 7th and weighted 6lb 15oz and was growing at slow pace for the first couple of months as to what my doctor was saying. Currently at her 6 months checkup she was 14lbs 1oz. Doesnt really look like she is that far off from many of the babies born in her month.

Allie was born October 20th. At last visit, she weighed 15 lbs. 15 oz. That was her 4 month visit. She will have her 6th month visit on May 13th. I'm sure she will be around 17 lbs. But we've been feeding her since her 4th month.

my son alexander was born on the 13th of october and he weighed 8lb 10oz, he was weighed yesterday and he is now weighing 19lb 8oz. 17lb isn't small its a good weight, it just shows that she is putting on weight well. Dont worry about it x

My twin daughters were born on the 3rd October 2008. Rylee weighed 3lb 13oz and Ruby weighed 3lb 3oz. They were born 7 weeks early. I had them weighed about 3 weeks ago and Rylee weighed 15lb 2oz and Ruby 12lb 12oz. Ruby has a bit of catching up to do but they are doing amazingly well considering how small they were at birth!

My girl was 5wks early and weighed 6lbs 12ozs at birth, she now weighs 18lbs. I don't think your baby is small, I think she's perfect. Your doctor will tell you if she's a little on small side. Otherwise I wouldn't be concerned.

Well....we just got back from the doctor and Tatum is 17lbs. 10oz and 26in long....she's in the 76th percentile with weight and 64th for height.......This blog has def. made me feel alot better.....It's amazing how alot of people just really don't have a clue on what "size" a baby really should be!!! Thank you everyone for the reply's .... I love reading how healthy and strong all of you little ones are....little angles!!!!!

My little girl was born on October 27, 2008, was 7 lbs. 12 oz at birth...now she is 17lbs as well as your little one....NOBODY has told us that she is "small"! haha! Everybody seems to make comments that she is "too big"...which I cant stand! She is just right and I think that your child is as well!! We BOTH dont need to listen to others! :)

i know what you mean about people saying my son is a big boy  but my doctor said he is healthy and that is all that matters to me really.

My daughter was born Oct. 6th, she weighed 7lb 12oz when she was born and for the first 5 months she was always in the 90th percentile for weight and height, she now weighs 16lbs even and 26 1/2 inches long as of two weeks ago, she has slowed down in weight gain a lot in the past month. By 6 months most babies have at least doubled their birth weight, it is very normal then they tend to slow down after 6 months.

my son was born on October 17, 2008. He weighed 7lbs, 5oz when born. He weighed 6lbs, 10oz when we left the hospital. As of Friday the 17th, he weighs 18.4 pounds. Doc said he is just barely over the 50th percentile. Everyone seems to think he is huge! but he isnt. I think its because over here in NM you either see huge babies, or tiny preemie babies, but he ie neither one!

Hi! My son just had his 6 month today (born 10/19) and weighs about 17.8 pounds and is a bit over 27". I thought for sure he was at least 20 pounds, cuz I feel like he's a sack of potatoes! Oh well. People always tell me he looks big for his age but I think it's all the hair. But he does have a big head (in proportions). He is in the 50-70th percentile for everything. Your baby sounds healthy and right on track. When people make comments now i just say mm-hmm. And that's it!

My son was born Oct. 21st and weighed 7lbs 11ozs. and was 21 inches. Now at 6months he weighs 14lbs 6ozs. and is 27 inches long. He's in the tenth percentile for weight making him a lil guy but he's perfectly healthy according to his doctor. I think he's a normal baby but I hear from everyone how tiny he is. It gets really frustrating when people tell me I need to feed him more often. I nurse him 3-4 times a day and he gets solids for breakfast lunch and dinner and eats till he lets me know he's full. I have no concerns on his size beacuse he is so healthy, never even had a sniffle, but really wish people would understand that babies come in all sizes and he's just one of the little guys!

My daughter was born Oct 29th 7lbs 15 ozs and at 5 months she weighed 17lbs. I think the important thing to also take into account is how they are growing in height as well. Charlotte was 52cm/20.45inches at birth and at 5 months was 68cm/28.77inches. She is above the 95th percentile for both her height and weight so on the larger side for her age, but in proportion so I'm not worried at all.

Small??? Sounds perfect to me! My babe was born the 14th, weighing 8lbs 11 oz. Just had his 6 month check-up today and he weighed 16lbs 5oz. He's in the 40th percentile. Wish he was a little higher, but all babies are different. Doc says he's healthy and his development is even a bit ahead of schedule. I wouldn't worry about her weight at all!

Hi Shelby - my son was born oct. 19th and he was 8 lbs. 4 oz (two weeks early!) and as of a few weeks ago he was a little over 17 lbs, but I think he is long and everyone thinks he is a big boy but he does not have enough rolls for me! I think (hope) he is going to be tall like his Daddy and not short like his momma!

Hi my daughter was born October 26, She weighed 6' 14oz.  She is almost 16 lbs now she is  long too which might be why she doesn't look as chunky as some of the other babies.  She is over 25 inches now.

[deleted account]

My guy was born on October 31st - 3 weeks early - and weighed in at 7lbs 3oz.  He was 15lbs 3 oz at his 4 month check up.  I've tried to weigh him at home and he seems to be around 17 or 18lbs.  We don't go for his 6 month check up until the first week in May.    Everybody tells me he's a big boy too - but I'm 5'8" and his father is 6'5" - so he's got some growing to do!  He's our little chunker, but we couldn't be happier!

My daughter was born on Oct. 13, and last week at the doc's she weighed 18lbs, 6oz, but she was 9lbs at birth. I get sick of people saying she's a "big girl". She has big cheeks and chunky arms and legs. I even had someone say to me yesterday "Wow, her body's not fat at all". Yeah, I know, 'cause she's a baby and babies generally aren't "fat", I'm not force feeding her or anything, they're supposed to be roly poly! My doctor says she is doing very well, and I wouldn't expect her to be small anyway, she comes from big stock. I am 5'11". Sorry, went off on a tangent there...:)

Just wanted to post a little something that my pedi told me.  Your baby's weight is really all depending on their own growth curve.  You can't really compare.  My son was 5 weeks early at 5lbs 4 oz. 4lbs 13 oz on discharge home, but at his 6 month appt today he was 16.5 lbs.  Which puts him in the 24% in weight for kids his age, however, he has continued to put on weight at a better than normal amount.  So, the pedi told us that he is doing wonderfully.  Don't worry so, if he is gaining normally he is fine!!
