Difficulties with child care

I went back to work when my daughter was 10 months old, and until now my mother, sister-in-law and a friend have been helping babysit. Problem is it's getting to be very stressful trying to organize a weeks worth of sitting at a time, plus my mother (who does more then half the sitting) is going out of town in February.

I can't afford daycare or a full-time sitter and bills (it'd cost as much for the care as my bills) and the child care benefit here sucks royally. I also can't afford to stay at home and not work. Anyone have any experience/ideas to sort this out a bit?

i found a daycare also using the dept. of job and family services website (ohio), they also have lists for people who run state-approved "home" daycare, and at least in our area, they are waaaay cheaper than daycare, about $20-30 per day (vs. $50-60), and they only allow the person to care for 6 children max. like tiffany, i was lucky to find an affordable daycare that had ONE opening left! before daycare i had my son in a "home" daycare and he loved it and the woman was amazing and truly loved kids. good luck :)

Wait lists are normal for daycare. I would suggest looking at different churches for mother's day out. I have my son in one, two days a week at four hours a day. Maybe you could split the hours between part time childcare and a sitter.

The issue here is unless I had her registered in an infant daycare while I was in my second trimester no one will take her until she two or potty trained. There are actually year-long waitlists for infant daycares here!

Wow, that's tough. I feel your pain. Daycare is expensive. But I have found it worth it. The best I can say is to shop around in your area. I live in south Florida and the local department of children and families has a database that I searched for daycare. Then I called around until I found some that I could afford. I was lucky enough to find an excelent daycare that is reasonably priced. It's still expensive though! I wish I could help more!
