starting your baby on solid foods.

My daughter hates eating formula now, and she has been eating stage 3 jar foods but she looses interest because she wants to feed herself. I was reading an article at the doctors office that says babies between 9 and 12 months should be eating 3 square solid food meals a day, but I am having a little trouble finding which foods I should give her. She has eaten some pasta, chicken, french fries and fruits. But I dont want her to eat junk food like french fries.

i've been giving my daughter pretty much whatever we eat, unless it's steak or something else tougher like that. she pretty much banned the jar food herself, and so i give her tiny pieces of what we eat on her tray and she feeds herself. my "rule-of-thumb" is, if i can put a small piece in my mouth and squish it with my tongue on the roof of my mouth (without using my teeth) then it's soft enough for her to have it. she eats fruit like ripe peaches, avocados, watermelon, strawberries, bananas. veggies like steamed carrots, peas, sweet potatoes. and meat such as chicken, hamburger beef, meatloaf, turkey. she also likes Ritz crackers cause they kind of "melt" in her mouth.

good luck!!

I have my 10 1/2 month old on all solid foods now, he's been on them for about a month. Give her whatever you eat. She should be able to handle green beans, cooked carrots, peas. My son loves Dole fruit cups, grilled cheese, gerber graduates, crackers, muffins, pancakes, french toast, oatmeal, cinnamon toast, I will pour formula over cheerios and serve that with fruit for some of his breakfasts, bananas, pasta, chicken, cheese, anything and everything she could probably handle. Just make sure it's cut up and soft enough for her to chew. good luck!
