Do you have a food allergy?
Does your child?

What's the weirdest food you heard someone being allergic to?

(Lactose Intolerance is not an allergy btw, it's an irritant, but an allergy is something severe and life threatening etc.)

My daughter is almost 2 1/2 and she's allergic to dairy, egg, peanuts, sesame and recently outgrew a beef allergy.. The beef one was REALLY hard because even things with "natural flavours" could mean beef stock.. I'm glad that one is gone! (she actually only ate beef for the first time last week - she doens't like it, but at least it won't make her throat close anymore).

Those are the only food allergies on our family, go figure, she got em all..

My toddler is allergic to dairy, eggs, citrus, berries, chocolate, peanuts, and corn--tht we know of. She may also be allergic to some artificial colors and/or flavors.
We eat a much more healthy diet at my house now.

OMG I know! He's also allergic to, dairy products, chocolate, Capsicum (found in most peppers), most medicines (i.e. codeine), latex.. thats all I can think of off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure there are more. But he has weird stuff too like, he can't eat shellfish if he's eaten a banana that day? Or he can eat peanuts as long as he hasn't had pears? Its crazy over there! I am now in nursing school and learning all these crazy things and procedures, but I've already assisted in doing a lot of them, because I worked for his mom for a while and was around a lot when things got bad.. oh and he also has Lyme disease which is making everything ten times worse, so if you think about it give him a shout out in a prayer or something because things aren't looking good and he's not even 30 : (

Oh and mad props to his mom (my son's Nahnie) she's a rock star taking care of him for all these years. Talk about a selfless mother.. all the precautions taken around the house and money spent on special products so he could have a "normal" childhood and hospital trips, extra hours worked....she's awesome and was a single mom from the time he was two until he was in his 20s when she remarried.

My husbands best friend (my son's 'uncle') is DEATHLY allergic to any meat that had fur (He's actually allergic to quite a few things but thats a whole other story.... ).... so that limits him to poultry and fish. He can't even eat chicken if the knife that was used to cut it was used on a furry meat product and not properly cleaned.. I know some of you reading this might think there is no way who, can be allergic to only certain types of meats.... but I have personally driven him to the hospital twice because he's gone into anaphylaxis because of cross contamination (thankfully not because of anything I've ever cooked him.)

Lisa, I get severe headaches from aspartame too. Even as a small child, I would get severe headaches from drinking anything diet.

No food allergies that we know of in my family. My son hasn't had any allergic reactions to anything either.

I am allergic to tree pollen and so around spring and the end of summer I suffer with hayfever something rotten - and it sucks that I can't take any meds this year :-(

No Lisa, not bored! Curious, lacyes daughters allergy to apples got me wondering about other weird ones.
My mother in law is allergic to the spice cumin. It took her a long time to figure it out but because they do mission trips to India alot she was able to figure it out because they use so much of it!
That's the only allergy in our families that I know of.

None in my family. Intolerances are common, but not food allergies :) I know the difference, LOL.

Ah well, I get migraines from MSG and aspartame and the shakes and blurred vision from FD & C Red #40, but I don't consider it an allergy when a manufactured chemical that shouldn't ever be in the body causes problems.

Nope, nothing here. Unless MSG's at Chinese buffets count? Environmental allergies is a different story though.

No allergies in my house. The only ones I'm aware of in the family are shellfish and cow's milk that have occured.

We don't have any food allergies. My best friend in school was allergic to tree nuts (she could eat peanuts). It was scary and I have developed a hatred of nuts lol. Her allergy has gotten worse as she's gotten older. I knew a preschooler who could barely eat anything. His parents had to drive 2 1/2 hours away to a specialty food store to get food he could eat. I honestly can't remember the huge list of things he was allergic to.
