I would need to talk to my child to try to find out what is making him most anxious and then see if there is a way to reduce that pressure. For example, we might work out with the teacher that he can sit in a specific seat, or sit near a friend from earlier school years, if fear of being with new kids were stoking his anxiety. Problem-solving is what is needed with kids who have undue anxiety, not punishment. The latter will only make the child more anxious.
