Any ideas?

I'm curious as to where everyone works out of...whether a home-based business or a store-front? My husband and I are approaching our 2nd anniversary for our studio. It's been a great experience so far!! Any ideas on what has worked for you in terms of marketing and things that you would stay away from? I'm trying to generate some different ideas in my position of VP of Everything!! lol

I have been working for an International greeting card company for the past 4.5 years and I love it. I was one of the first digital event photographers in Canada and now share my love of photography by turning them into real greeting cards with the company I work for. It would be a great add-on for your business, Kelly. Turn your wedding or engagement photos into greeting cards (also thank you) and send out 1 or 1,000 personalized cards, all with the click of a mouse. Christmas card time is just around the corner too and the possibilities are endless. If you would like a free trial to turn your photos into real cards to send to a favourite client, or yourself, let me know and I will send you the link. It would be a great add-on to your existing business, or use it to grow your client base. Take care.

Thank you for all of the great ideas!! We're in the middle of updating some of our things, and putting together packages for some related businesses in town....with an album to showcase our work. I've got a few other things that we may try. I'm thinking an invitation or something for the new parents, to be given out at the hospital.

What type of photography? I blog a sneak peek from each session and it does get passed around. Great source of free advertising. Get on my space, here at facebook, twitter, flickr anywhere you can make become part of a community. Give family and friends business cards holders stuffed with your bus. cards in them. They are a great source of advertising. Have an incentive for your customers to reffer you. There are tons of ways to get out there. You just have to make it happen for yourself.

Leave your cards in restrooms when you go out for a nice dinner, to a concert, your hair stylist any and everywhere you can think.

My husband and I work out of our house. Which has worked well for us. Our main focus area is weddings so an actual studio set up is not required. Word of mouth has been our best marketing tool. I have also started handing out our studio cards with orders I get for my Passion Party business. I have been crossing the two businesses which has worked well too with brides and bachlorettes.

In terms of Marketing, BLOG BLOG BLOG!  I choose to not spend money and just use my blog!  When I post peeks of a session, they will guaranteed pass that link on, which is free advertising!  I had up to 650 hits in one day, and they weren't just my mom !  ;)

I work out of my home, we are going to build a house soon and add a triple attached garage which will be my studio, so I will be home still with my children when I am working (I have 4) and yet then I don't have to hurry to do my dinner dishes if I have a viewing session in the evening!

hmmm what else... oh if you are doing only on line viewing, you could be missing out on some great $$$ potential.  I can't believe the difference in sales since I do only that and have created collections for purchases!

Congrats on 2 years working with your husband!  LOL I couldn't do it, I love him but not a chance haha!  I am very envious of couples that have such harmony in a work environment!  We would just never know who was the boss ;)
