Any words of wisdom or advice to a newbie police family?

My husband is currently a corrections officer but has put in an application to a police force three and a half hours away. He's passed all of their tests and is currently in the background phase. It's looking very promising. Any words of wisdom or advice for us as we make this transition to a new town as well as my husband going to the academy and getting out onto the field?

Probably a big one is to expect that your husband might change a bit. You will have days where you feel like a single mum and really alone. Your hubby might come home and be unable to wind down or become withdrawn as he struggles to deal with the range of things he will now see daily on shifts. He will see happy things as well as sad things, he will see car accidents and dead children, he will see house fires, he will see some horrible things and how he processes it will affect your relationship in some way ---- it's up to you guys to find out what works for you.

You will get through it - Police Wives are just as tough - we have to be! LOL Best wishes for a positive future
