Blackwater's Secret War in Pakistan

What do you all think about the company formerly known as Blackwater? What are your opinions of private military "contractors" in general?

It's a fairly long read so I'm going to just post the link.

Here's a snippet:

The use of private companies like Blackwater for sensitive operations such as drone strikes or other covert work undoubtedly comes with the benefit of plausible deniability that places an additional barrier in an already deeply flawed system of accountability. When things go wrong, it's the contractors' fault, not the government's. But the widespread use of contractors also raises serious legal questions, particularly when they are a part of lethal, covert actions. "We are using contractors for things that in the past might have been considered to be a violation of the Geneva Convention," said Lt. Col. Addicott, who now runs the Center for Terrorism Law at St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas. "In my opinion, we have pressed the envelope to the breaking limit, and it's almost a fiction that these guys are not in offensive military operations." Addicott added, "If we were subjected to the International Criminal Court, some of these guys could easily be picked up, charged with war crimes and put on trial. That's one of the reasons we're not members of the International Criminal Court."

Well ,I will just put it this way many soldiers despise Blackwater. My husband who is a counter intelligence agent feels like the defense contractors who work for companies like Blackwater which are used for conducting sensitive military operations only end up becoming an adherence to the soldiers trying to gather intelligence and perform military operations.

My husband has cited instances where they have caused them to loose contacts, breakdown ties with the people of the areas they are working to help, influence and therefore taint information and all the negative illegal things they do reflect badly on US soldiers who are bound by codes of honor. They act like nothing but merenaries and their actions form what many think of the US militaries presence...which is not positive.

It is US soldiers who get the wrath of anger because of the murders, rapes and other illegal things members of Blackwater do while in deployed areas. They more than not make it harder rather than easier for soldiers.

Most military men and women at least the ones I know have little to no respect at all for the people who work for Blackwater. The consensus among the intelligence military personel is that working for Blackwater is basically throwing away your dignity and crapping on the military code of honor.

They give the US a bad name and anyone who wants to justify their actions has no respect for human life because if they were doing most the things they have done (pimping out young Iraqi girls, rape, child molestation, murder, bribery, smuggling)... here in America to American civilians to American children...many more American citizens would be outraged, up in arms, demanding government action, and crying out about the evil that has been done by Blackwater employees.

I think they are scary, I think they abuse the power they are given and I think that they should be held accountable for the crimes they commit. They give the US an even worse name in the countries in which they operate. I really don't understand why these guys still have government contracts.

Blackwater is creepy.

I don't think that our government or any should contract out a war. The whole thing is dirty and disgusting.
