Judge dismisses charges in Blackwater shooting

The shooting that happened 2 years ago, which caused such grief for Blackwater (now known as Xe Services), has been dismissed. The judge dismissed the case because of government missteps. There were 6 men in total and 5 have gotten off scot free. Even though they had given sworn statements to the State Department; the statements were given with the promise of immunity. So they could not be used and prosecutors had to build their case without them. The 6th man had turned on his fellow colleagues and had pled guilty to killing one Iraqi and wounding another. It is unclear if the judge will overturn his plea bargain.

I'm not entirely sure how to feel about this. What a load of BS that their statements were given but couldn't be used! Then the prosecutors (from what I understand) still used those to build his case around, even though they were not directly used during the trial. The prosecutors were told by the Justice Department to not use them. From what the judge says they ignored this advice from the Justice Department, which is when their case started falling apart. How sick is it that these men get off on a technicality. I wonder how well this will sit with Iraqi's? Probably not very well. Citizens died, not terrorists, not insurgents, citizens.

It is BS and it is upsetting because now the soldiers serving over in Iraq who are bound by stricter regulations who are trying to work as peace keepers who see these private contractors as nothing but BIG ASS complications and thorns in their sides...they are the ones who will have to deal with the deadly consequences that this judical call will invoke. More soldiers will be attacked and die due to outrage. More of those who are already angry, upset and who feel like they have been disrespected by the West will join forces with the insurgents.

How would Americans feel if the tables were turned. If 6 men in another country killed American civilians and then got off on technicalities and crappy plea bargains.

The actions committed by private security companies like Blackwater put ALL of us at risk. They also turn what positive and successful actions that have been made to end the war in Iraq and break down terrorists actions into meaningless nothings. One step forward now ten steps back. I am once again writing the DOD and my reps insisting that all ties be cut with Blackwater for GOOD. I still don't understand why we have contracts with such a disgusting company. Privitization of fighting forces..dangerous.

It is odd that the US citizens have yet to heed the warning Eisenhower gave in 1961 concerning the expansion of the MIC...moral hazard.......................
