I have a 4 yr old son who has been potty trained #1 almost 8 months and will NOT go potty #2 on the toilet. Bribes, showing disappointment, the whole gamet does not work. Please any suggestions are welcome....

My son is 4.5 and struggling with the same problem. He had gone in his training pants (switched him to them because I was tired of washing out underwear. he was dissappointed at first) and so I cleaned him up and told him to go get another pair and in the process he needed to do more and came running down the stairs butt naked with this announcment so I sent him to the potty and he went. Someone else told me to take him to the store and let him pick out special underwear. Then put them on him and tell him that the first time he poops in them he has to throw them away! So this morning I was running out of training pants and I put an underwear on him and he asked if I was going to throw them away if he pooped in them. In less than an hour, he had gone into the bathroom and gone poop in the potty all of his own accord. I was so proud. We are not out of the woods yet, because he went in the underwear tonight, but there is light at the end of the tunnel for you too. Good luck. Sorry for rambleing!

Ms Skoda, That was going to be my next step. I'm glad to hear that it is working for someone else. I'll just crank up the heat in the house for a few days and see what happens. Thanks a million!!

The only thing that I have found works for my daughter is not putting a diaper on her at all...then she doesn't want to go in her underwear. So far, she's gone poop on the potty three times, and each time it's been because it is basically already coming out of her! :) I think pooping is scary for them because they feel like they are losing a piece of themselves. If your son doesn't like to have dirty underwear maybe that would work. Also, if he sees another child his age going, it might make him want to be like that other child. When he does go poop on the potty, be sure to make a HUGE deal about it! Hope this helps!!
