Potty training horror!

[deleted account] ( 3 moms have responded )

Has potty training become the unspoken horror? My daughter is going to be 2 1/2 yrs old this month and she is hating even talking about the potty. Any advise?

Try using the bathroom as your diaper-changing area. Encourage her to sit on the potty, clothes on, diaper on and diaper off. Another step is to encourage her to play in the bathroom and become more familiar with everything. Clean and sanitize everything, then let her explore at her own pace. Let her flush the toilet, touch the water, unroll and roll the toilet paper. The more familiar she is with her surroundings, the more comfortable the transition will be for both of you. When you both are ready, use an egg timer set at graduating intervals, starting at every 10 min, increasing by 5 min every day. When the timer rings, it is time to sit on the potty. Eventually, something will come out! Encourage her to drink lots of fluids and set a reward system. Make sure to choose something (candy, sticker, stamps, money) that she will only only ONLY get for using the potty. Example: 1 m&m for sitting on the potty. Then escalate it to 1 m&m for peeing on the potty. Then 1 m&m for peepee's and 2 for poopoos. Good luck! I hope this helps.
