I am having the HARDEST time potty training my 21 month old son. I know you have to be consistent with potty training. However, I am a single mother and I work 6, sometimes 7 days a week. 8 hour days. My son is in daycare and he was moved up to the 2 year old class about 2 months ago because the director said he was too advanced for his age. Being as that I am always at work, I have a hard time with him on potty training. I can't tell if the daycare is working with him or not. I have asked them to sit him on the pot and work with him on this issue. I know he may not be ready yet, however, I would like him introduced to the potty. He will sit on it when we are at home but he doesn't use it. He tells me when he has a bowel movement which makes me think it's time, but he just won't use it! Last night he told me he wanted his potty, but he had already pooped in his diaper. I don't know how to get him started on this seemingly LONG journey of potty training.

I'd have to say it's probably to early for him. While some kids are ready to be potty trained before their 2nd birthdays, other kids just aren't ready until after their 3rd birthday. You will find potty training HARD until your child is ready. Once he's ready it will be very EASY.

My 21 month old is starting to show interest in the potty too. She tells me when she poops in her diaper now, and when I let her run around naked for a while, she likes to go sit on the little potty. She says pee pee, and poop while she's on the potty, but only once has she actually peed in the potty. I'm in no rush to push the potty training.

With my older daughter she started sitting and playing on the little potty at about 18 months. At age 2, one day she just decided that she was going to pee in the potty, and she didn't want to pee in her diaper anymore. She wouldn't poop in the potty though. For the next 6 months we went through phases of peeing only in the potty, and phases of accidents. Then I finally got her to poop in the potty, and we were golden from then on. She's had the occasional accident, but not very often.

My plan this time around is to take cues purely from my LO. If she asks to pee on the potty I will let her, otherwise I'm not pushing her or making her sit on the potty till she pees. She watches me when I go to the bathroom, and she watches her big sister too. She'll have it figured out soon enough.

Maybe he's not ready docs usually say wait until 2 or 3 years old it's not good to force your kid to use potty if they aren't ready I would wait and try when he's between the ages of two and three unless he's not showing signs that he's ready the. Wait longer ...

I woke up one day and said no more diapers!!! We lived in the country so it was easier bt my son thought it was funny to water daddy's tires!!! We also told him since his bday was a month away that if he didn't have ANY accidents then he could have all the cars he wanted!! He has never wore a diaper pull up ever!!! He got over 300 cars for his bday!!!

Thank you Lori. He goes to the bathroom with me as well. I haven't been pushing it. I'll just let him go on his own time.
