The recommendation is nothing but breastmilk or formula for the first six months. We did baby led weaning (where our kids fed themselves) and so they were a little older than six months - 7 months, 8.5 months, 9 months and close to a year.

My son started spoon feeding at 4 month, he "mastered" this within two weeks.
