Hi I have a 10 month old daughter and at the moment she is been tested for both coeliacs and lactose intolerance. Does anyone have any experiance with these problems in the extreme extent

My middle son became celiac after his 18 month shots and was carbohydrate intolerant as well for a long time. Celiac damages the small intestines so it's hard for the lactase enzyme to reach the lactose to break it down, so many celiac patients are lactose intolerant as well - but not necessarily forever. If you give the gut time to heal (avoiding ALL gluten and no cheating), the lactose shouldn't be a problem any longer after a period of time. My son is still mostly lactose free but tolerates it fine now. If you notice that gluten/lactose free diet isn't completely fixing the problem, he might need a little more effort for gut healing. I'd highly recommend the Specific Carbohydrate Diet - SCD. It was created for all inflammatory bowel disease and/or celiac and it was something we had to do because of my son's other carbohydrate intolerances. You can look up the book on amazon called 'Breaking the Vicious Cycle', which describes the diet in detail and the science behind it. You can also read the reviews.
