Lactose Intollerant?

My daughter just turned 5 years old. For the past 4 years we have thought she was allergic to soy products and have issues with too much milk products making her stomach cramp and have very loose stools. We have monitored this (lightly) over the past few years. We have noticed her having more loose stools when she eats pizza, a lot of dairy products...but we were more concerned about the soy not the milk. We had her allergies tested last week because she is congested a lot and gets a lot of fluid built up in her ears...but shows no cold symptoms. Today, we found out the test came back with no soy allergy. They think she may have acid reflux issues and/or be lactose intollerant. I am just confused on what to do at this point.

We are supposed to me giving her a Prevacid tablet about 15-20 minutes before dinner to see if this helps with reflux...if she has these issues. We are going to continue to monitor her milk products more closely. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas to her symptoms?

Try cutting out all wheat products because she could be wheat intolerant or have celiac disease. Sounds like the same symptoms my daughter went through before being diagnosed at 16yrs with celiac disease.

Do you think she might br lactose intolerant? I have a 4 year old daughter that was allergic to milk for 3 years, since haviny her retested recently, she is no longer allergic to milk but is lactose intolerant. She is fine with eating things that have milk in them, but yogurt, ice-cream, cheese, give her a tummy ache. I have to get her lactose-free ice- cream. The doctor said to give her a lact-aid tablet before eating milk products, but it does not work for her.Try to see if there is a difference in her between eating cheese and a product that has milk in it.

Your story sounds so familiar. I went thru similar problems with my daughter. Spit up all the time when eating, she was very colicy as a baby. My daughter went thru 9 months of loose stools before being diagnosed lactose intollerant AND milk fat (cream) intollerant. doctors told me to cut out her milk completely, she loves her milk, hates soy and rice milk, she went from soy formula to 1% milk, could never tolerate 2% milk,  They told me to take her off milk completely when she started having problems with the 1% milk. She was tested  for milk allergies, always came up negative. I switched her to skim milk-lactose free, now there's no more loose stools and she can have skim milk made dairy products. It is possilble to be lactose intollerant AND milk fat intollerant without an actual allergy.  She also had to have her adenoids removed at 17 months because it seemed like she was always sick with sinus infections. Just something to think about. Not all intolerances are just to the lactose.

i would cut the milk and soy out completely. there are rice milk options for drinking and putting on cereal and if you're concerened about the calium and vit d there are many other foods or suppliments fortified with them. not all tests are accurate either, i've had 2 allergist test my kids and they had some similar and some very important misses, so i wouldn't believe soy is safe just because a test said so, you know your daughter and how she reacts, if you think she is, then she is.

That sounds like classic lactose intolerance.  Since she isn't vomiting or complaining of her chest burning I doubt she has indigestion.  I would avoid dairy.  Most people can't tolerate dairy.  Check out my blog.  I just posted about lactose intolerance and cheese.
