I would have, with my son when he was 4ish, put him into his own room and for about a week, when he'd get up I'd put him back into his bed, sit with him for a few mins, each night it was less and less until he would sleep the whole night and come into our bed at about 6-7am and he'd rest with us for 10-15 mins before he'd get up. For a week or less its hard work but worth it and it does work

My son had a hard time sleeping in his own room. I found that even though it was a pain in the butt I would lay in the room with him and "tickle" his back, read a story and make it a routine. I also would reward him for the efforts he made. Now that he is 5 I am back in the same boat because he is in the "bad guy shadow " phase. So he knows he has to try and sleep in his room with lights on and a special "laser fighting" night light and if he gets scared he can come in and wake mommy up. I like Sally's post too, I did that with my son with letting him pick comforters and pillow cases and stuff like that but I never thought of that for helping make it sepcial - great idea

make it special maybe a different cool bedspread or say this is the big kid bed something that makes it extra special. Maybe favorite stuffed animal. I have not really had this problem we went strait from crib at 18 months to twin bed and put rail along the side. Hope this helps
