6 Year old still won't sleep alone !

My 6 year old daughter still expects me to sleep with her. It started when she was an infant. I made the mistake of bringing her in bed with me. Now she won't go to bed until I lay with her and if she wakes in the middle of the night she screams for me. I end up staying with her all night finding that it is easier than hoping beds and losing more sleep myself. I can't just force her to stay in there without me because I am worried she will just stay up and cry and lose too much sleep for school the next day. She is also too smart to be bribed with being a "big girl"....Any suggestions ?

Hi Amy,
I had this exact issue with my now 7 year old son. He has been sleeping on his own for a little over a year now. Before this he was sleeping with me since he was a year old and I tried putting him to bed in his own bed a very long time ago but he would cry, scream, say he was scared which of course made me feel bad, it was terrible, I had to lay with him till he fell asleep and even then sometimes he would wake at the littlest move I made(trying to get out of the bed) or put his arm on me, which was his way of knowing I couldn't leave. so yes I have been through what you are going through!! .....here's what I did. I put him in his own bed and gave him a dream light or a night light so he would feel like he's not in the dark, yes its going to be hard the first month or so every single night he will cry or scream, but every day that goes by it will lesson and lesson and all of a sudden they will be running to their room, not yours!!lol I really with you luck and hope I helped you in any kind of way, i'm here if you have any more questions!!
