My daughter is eight also, and she does not like reading or homework in general. I also have a 17yr old son who used to be the same way, and I fought every night with him to do his was not worth the fight, because we would end up giving the answers in the end just so he would have it done. However I have decided not to make homework such a negative experience for myself or my daughter this time. We are currently reading 15 minutes a night, and at the end of the month we are going to have a mother and daughter date night. Dinner, movie, and just spending one on one time together for her reward. I think kids respond to a reward system, as well as giving over exaggerated excitement for trying, because they do like to please us and it seems to give them the extra little push to keep going.

I hope that you find something that works for you, because I do remember the struggles I had with my son, very frustrating. Good Luck
