I need some ideas about what to do for my son's 10th birthday party. I don't want to have a big kiddie party but I want to let him have a few friends and take them to do something, then maybe pizza and cake at my house. I thought of Dave and Buster's but that is soooo expensive. I don't know if boys would be into going to the movies. Anyone have any thoughts on good 10 year old boy birthday party ideas?

For my oldest son's 8th birthday, he asked for a water gun fight party. We have a small backyard and he wanted to invite lots of kids so we did a water gun fight in the park. He has a summer birthday and it is hot where we live so this worked great. We did rent out the shaded picnic pavilion and served pizza and that cost money, but the water gun fight part itself was cheap...we asked guests to bring their own water guns, plus we had a few extras, and the favors were very cheap water pistols we got at Walmart. We filled buckets at a spigot at the restrooms for quick refills. It was so much fun a kid we did not know who was just at the park crashed the party.
Another party that has been great for our boys is indoor rock climbing. We have a good one locally where they let you bring in your own food and the party packages are very affordable. This is a great activity that younger kids can do but is of course challenging enough for tweens, teens or even adults.
Now my oldest is turning 10 and does not know what he wants to do. I am going to suggest backyard campout. Thanks for the ideas!

I know this post was made on '09...ha ha ha... but there are soooo many things you can do at home for B-Day Parties and reasonably priced as well!!
Lego Party: Get out the tubs of legos (younger age prob.) cover juice boxes in constructin paper and attach dots so they look like legos, have contests building towers etc for small prizes.
Minute to Win it party: Remember that show? Simple games that each take...a minute to play so everyone gets a turn. Face the Cookie, Breakfast Scramble etc... all the games use items you have around the house! Have a bowl full of fun little prizes to choose from...or, don't do prizes per winner and give all participants a little something at the end ..maybe their own stopwatch from the dollar store..or a bag filled with the supplies to play one of the games at home with their parents! (I actually did this as an adult party and it was a KICK!)
You can find blueprints for the game here: http://www.nbc.com/minute-to-win-it/
Many Brunswick bowling will have bowling deals. up to 6 people for $30... doesn't include cake or anything, but after bowling you can always take em back home for cake and presents. Just bring a case of water with you to the alley.
Have a "Drive in Movie Night" Rent a movie or watch one you already have. Buy theater size candy, soda and juice in bottles, you can purchase popcorn bags cheap...give the kids tickets to "buy" the candy and drinks. Toss pillows all over the floor (or for really young kids you could let them decorate a small cardboard box as a car and they could sit in it to watch the movie)
I'll stop now... I have 4 kids from 7 to 22 so I have many a party themes I have done through the years! Ha ha ha

A great 10 year old boy birthday party idea is doing a Scavanger Hunt...with maps, clues and treasure at the end! For an evening party, turn off the lights and use flashlights...hide treats along the way. You would only have to buy extra flashlights and a treasure!
