Brothers ALWAYS fighting!

[deleted account] ( 5 moms have responded )

My boys are 5 & 8, and I swear all they do is argue & fight. I am so feed up with it! I have tried everything to get them to stop, writing sentences, time outs, one upstairs one down, taking toys away. And nothing is helping me! I know they are going to fight & wrestle, they are boys. But how do I get through to them when enough is enough. Some one always gets hurt, usually the 5 year old. Last time his glasses got broken. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Have you tried making them clean when they fight? My husband does that to our girls. If they fight he sends them to clean the family room or bathroom. They get like 2 warnings, then they both have to do it together as a punishment. I have started not letting them tattle all the time like they want to blame each other too. Maybe we just have more drama with 2 girls? Dont know, but they get physical too... Its hard, I know. Mine are 5 and 11. Make sure they get a lone time sometimes, for sure, but there are tiems they just have to get along. I know. Have you tried rewarding them when they do get along well? Maybe take them to or rent a movie? Or a coloring book, or a sledding outing? something fun, that doesn't have to cost lots of money. Our library has movies as well as books and CDs to check out, and we take our 5yo there as a reward. Or you could do Chuckie Cheese, etc. I wish you the best! Hard situation for sure.

I have the same problem with my 2. Boy 7 and girl 5 are always at each other, which is a pain cos I have another on the way.
I have to send one to bed and keep one with me, it helps for a while and I alternate between which goes to bed and which stays with me just to keep it fair.

Candy, mom sister left them there until they were laughing and able to get along. It didn't seem to ever take more than 5 minutes.

I have the same problem with my 6 and5 year girls. Thanks Angie for the idea. I am going to try that the first sign of fighting. How long should I leave them there? My girls can be quiet

Have them sit cross legged on the floor and hold hands. They can't say a word. They will start trying to hurt each other trying to squeeze harder. Before you know it, they'll be laughing at the game. My sister used this with her girls and it worked. My great grandmother used to braid her girls hair together - not something I would suggest...
