my 8 year old suffers from migrains since kindgergarten, they seem to come when she gets very hot - the drs don't really have much to do for her other than a daily medicine equivalent to bendryl, my husband and i do not want to go this rout yet, was thinking of natural resources such as accupuncture wondering if anyone has tried it or any other ideas....

I would definetely have her tested for allergies! These often cause migraines. Also sleep is she sleeping? Some dental problems can cause migraines (TMJ)...I'd check that. Insist on getting to the root of the problem...she shouldn't have to suffer and should definetely NOT take those meds.

I have a friend with a Daughter who suffers from severe migraines and often got sent home from school. The teachers thought she was faking to get out of work but my friend finally got a doc who thinks laterally and they did allergy testing on her. Turns out she had quite a few allergies to common things which were giving her sinus swelling (not runny noses etc) causing great pressure therefore the migraines.
Has your child been tested for allergens or swelling maybe.
They really need to find the cause before proceeding but thats so hard with 5min doctors. good luck. cheers. L.
Oh go see a homeopath who does Bach flower remedies, if its an emotional thing the flower essence are magic. (Mother and grandmother homeopaths.)

My daughter is 9 and has had migraines since kindergarten also. She was having three a week and throwing up with every one. We decided to take her to a child neuro and she is on a preventative that she takes every night before bed in addition to melatonin. We have found that lack of adequate or deep sleep and hunger can cause them. She now has 1-2 a month and they last 2-4 hours instead of the 10-12 hours like before and she rarely throws up with them anymore. I don't like her taking meds everyday but it is better than the migraines she was having before.

My neurologist also suggested coke & tylenol. The combination of the tylenol with the caff & sugar helps. I don't like drinking soda, but I will for that.

Make sure your daughter gets enough water in her diet too. Even mild dehydration is painful. Magnesium & Omega 3 oil also help. Good luck & God bless. Your poor sweet girl...

Definitely try natural options like accupuncture, and see a natropath. They might be able to determine what is the cause, and help prevent them, or at least give you more natural options when she gets them. Also, when she has a migraine, try putting a cold pack (from the fridge, not frozen) on her head. It seems to relieve some of the pain. Also, give her coke to drink when she has a migraine coming on - the caffeine can help reduce the pain. Weird, but a Dr told me this, and it seems to help.
