Help- dd with few friends

We moved last fall to a new state and ended up in a neighborhood with very few girls my dd's age. Add to that the fact she is an only and more mature in some ways than other 11 yo girls, and we have trouble.

She does have a few friends from the homeschool group, 4-H and dance but they all live several miles away so plans have to be made, unlike our old town where all her friends were within 6 blocks.

Besides putting her in other activities or sending her to public school (not an option), does anyone have any ideas? What can we do to help her feel better about the lack of local friends?

honestly if you are not willing to put her into the local school which I fully understand as we send my son to a school almost 40 mins away from our home, you have to be willing to go the extra mile.....we plan play dates with his friends from school I drive him to their houses or they come to ours.....He doesn't dance in our area either as I am a firm believer in getting quality for my money so I drive him to the best studio in our province. We are on the road alot but he is not deprived he has many good friends at school and over the summer we do day camps and such where he meets the local children
