My daughter just moved from out family bed into her own bed. We went shopping and bought her a new comforter of her choosing and allowed her to decorate her room with pictures that she colored and painted. She was delighted! She has been in her room for 4 months and has snuck into our bed twice. I wake up and put her back in her bed and reassure her that mom and dad are right next door, and she needs to sleep in her big girl bed with all her princess and puppies. I hope this helps!

you could put sleeping bags on the floor and let them know if they wake up they can come in quietly and lay down. We have that rule, that way everyone is taken care of, our 5 year old knows we care about his sleep and need to be close, and i don't get woke by him at night

I just broke my 4yr old and 2yr old of this habit. ( I am expecting in Jan) When I was ready, which you need to be. I simply explained what was going to happen and then we did a sticker chart. For each night they went to bed and stayed in their beds for the whole night they would receive a sticker on their chart, when they received 5 stickers ( one school week) they would be able to go to the $ store and pick out one item from the entire store. They did do it and now I am able to sleep with my spouse again all night. I was lucky to only have to do the chart for one week but I was willing to do it for more if thats what it took. I hope this helps!
