Don't know how old your child is, but here are a few things that might help. Depending on his age, you will know at what level to have this discussion:
1. Reassure your child that both you and his dad love him very much.
2. Also reassure that it's not his fault, and the breakup had nothing to do with him
3. Never talk bad to him about his father no matter how much you are angry
4. After a year, I think it would be ok to slowly introduce your new partner to him. Ensure that there is no confusion about this new man, and that your son understands that he is not replacing his dad. Maybe you could say at first that he is your friend, and although you love spending time with him (your son), sometimes grown ups like to have friends their own age, just like he plays with boys and girls his own age.
