How many after-school activities does your child attend? How many, in your opinion, is too many?

I am a mom of 2 kids, 8 & 5. I'm constantly trying to balance out their after-school activity schedules, trying to make sure they get what they want, at the same time, trying to make sure I'm not pulling my hair apart. What is an optimal number in your opinion?

My 9 year olds do gymnastics for an hour and a half each week (one class). They also do soccer, but only August-October. That's two practices (hour and a half each) and one game per week. It's enough.

We also have church every week and their 'Bible study' (read as tons of games and a Bible story thrown in) meets for an hour and a half every other week.

It's enough for us. I'd rather underschedule than overschedule.

Mine has swimming lessons on Thursday evenings and goes to Hebrew school on Sunday mornings. (She's 8.) That's plenty IMO. However, that's clearly a minority opinion: I know very few kids her age who aren't involved in at least three activities in addition to weekend Hebrew (or other heritage language) school.

My 10 year old does swimming on a monday and film club wed and an organised library activity 1 day a month. She doesn't want to do any more at moment as she likes to play with friends at home aswell. I would consider 3 a week to be enough as long as they are doing homework on time and not falling behind with school work from being to tired at school. Hope it gets easier for you soon.
