How to get my 8 yr. old daughter to stop being such a slob.

I have 2 daughters, 16 months apart, 8 & 9 yrs. old. My 9 yr. old has always been nice & neat, organized, cleans her room daily. on the other hand my 8 yr. old is the complete opposite! nothing is working with her like it did with my oldest. My husband & I have tried helping her, showing her how to organize, take care of her things but nothing ever seems to sink in! I don't want to resort to spanking but I'm afraid that's our next option because it is really very ridiculous how slobbish she is. Any suggestions please?

Be at ease... not all fingers on our hands are the same size nor shape ... yet we do not judge or spank our fingers... so not all kids are the same either... there must be other quality in her that is just as outstanding...yelling and punishment only creates resentment.. and praising her other sister makes her feel inadequate... so be gentle and trust that in time she will with a little praise...

I unfortunately have no better suggestions, but am having the same problem with my 8 year-old daughter. From the moment she gets up, when she walks in after school and at bedtime she just drops things as she goes and leaves them all over the house. We have tried different punishments and taking things away and she is okay with that because it's less for her to be responsible for. After trying several puniments and different reward options we are at a loss. Good luck and if you get any helpful responces please send them my way.
