i have 2 sons that are fixing to go back to school and having hard time getting them to go to bed

[deleted account] ( 2 moms have responded )

my sons are 5 and 7 years old and start back school in a week. i am having a hard time getting them back to their routine of going to bed at 8pm. my husband travels a lot for work and when he is home he ends up being the "bad guy" to get them to go to sleep b/c they don't wanna listen to me. they have a tv in their room and are aloud to watch one movie but they turn the tv back on and play with their toys and jump around like their bed room is the romper room. does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to get them to go to bed and to sleep in a timely matter so they can be prepared for school and rested for their first day back to school w/o a huge battle on my hands????

My uncle let me stay up as long as I wished, but I had to get up by 7 am, perhaps going to bed at 9 would be wise, if you get them up at 7am, or whatever time they will need to be up for school. Start this now or within a couple of weeks of school starting, if 9 is a better bedtime for them, you'll find out before school starts.

At 5 and 7 they should be able to follow the rules but since they can't I would take the tv out of the room and all their toys. I would just leave their clothes and bed in there. Make them earn back their toys and tv by going to bed on time at night. If they want to keep playing then they don't get the rest of their stuff back.
